Hey Bull, i've talked to you in the past i believe, i know it can be tough getting work in florida, especially with no OTR experience. For the last 6 months I've been with Pritchett Trucking out of Lake Butler, Fl, when i first started i was pretty frustrated, but i've acclimated to it pretty well, i live in norht florida, tallahassee to be exact, and i haul dedicated trash runs, i average 750 weekly gross, and i'm home nightly. I know they have regional trucks with weekly hometime, which might be something up your ally down there in south florida, i'm not going to sugar coat the job, i put in long hours, which equal long weeks, but they have pretty good bonus programs, which include weekly bonuses, and quarterly safety bonuses, and a 1000 dollar sign on bonus paid out within your first six months. Check out www.pritchetttrucking.com for more info, it's kind of vague, if you do have any questions feel free to PM me, i just can't guarantee when i'll get back to you. You can always get their number off the website, and ask for Roy, he's their HR guy. All in all pretty good company, just don't expect the world, this is truckdriving

    Forget Con-Way Truckload....that was CFI...and that is 48 & Canada OTR.

The only companies that will fit your need....if they are hiring is one of the Com-Car companies. They may have something you can use. Commercial Carriers out of Auburndale..... http://www.driveccc.com/

With the bottoming out of the construction market...I doubt if even the cement truck companies are hiring.... very few dirt buckets rolling around even in SW FL.... I live in that area as well.
Forrest Gump was right....and some people literally strive to prove it.....everyday. Strive not to be one of "them".... And "lemmings" are a dime a dozen!

Remember: The "truth WILL set you free"! If it doesn't "set you free"....."it will trap you in the cesspool of your own design".

They lost my original "avatar"....oh well.

This company runs alot of freight in the SE and in Florida. They pull 53's and containers out of Jax,Tampa and Miami. Their main office is in North Carolina and have a terminal in Daytona Beach west of I95 on Hwy 92 (intl speeway blvd). http://www.salemcarriers.com/jobapp.htm

They get the drivers home on weekends by the looks of the terminal on Sundays and run older freightliners.

I am with the rest of you that are looking for a driving job out of Florida. I live in the Ocala area and have OTR experience but still cant find a job. I have been hauling cars for myself with my own Authority for the last 3 years but they still dont care. I would do the southeast or anything that will get me home weekends but so far no luck, if anyone knows of any jobs that will do home weekends or the southeast let me know. I have been driving a total of about 15 years nothing on my DAC so I dont know whats up except maybe my age of 53 years old :? might be it.
    Thanks
    Tony

Because with the price of fuel this past 6 months its hard to make any money at it, then the FMCSA now makes you carry #1 Million dollars of Insurance because they classify autos HAZARDOUS MATERIAL. People still want to pay as if fuel was $3.00 per gallon. If you can look on Central Dispatch you will see what I mean, most of the brokers are only paying in the range of #.33 to $.39 per mile for a car. Its just not worth it anymore.

I wont say it wasnt a money maker but for the past 6 or 8 months when fuel went crazy it stopped being fun, and when a job isnt fun anymore its time to move on. Plus then all the maintenance to the truck & trailer Insurance, now thats the real killer @ over $12,000.00 per year. But who knows maybe it will turn back around but as for now it would be cheaper to drive for someone else and not have to worry about where the next pay check is coming from.
