    Default Flatbed companies

I currently work for Coca Cola but spend about 400+ on gas A month getting back and forth to work. So I have decided to go with a flatbed company but would like any helpful advice. The physical part cant be any problem, I delivered 1450 cases of cokes in 14.5 hours in 98 degree south Ga. heat friday so work isn't an issue. I would like to know from anyone who has worked for or knows any first hand knowledge of the 3 comanies I have been approved to go to orientation with: Arrow in Tulsa OK , TMC and Cypress in Jacksonville Fl. I told all 3 I would let them know this week if and when I can come to Orientation. Thanks any help will be appreciated. 8)

I work for TMC and have for a year and a half. I think they are a great company to work for. For more information check out the 247 page TMC thread.

I have presented the theory on that thread that you are being tested by the recruiters. You need to show the right blend of persistence and patience with the recruiters. Leaving messages doesn't work very well usually. You need to keep calling until you get them live on the phone, and still be polite about not being called back.

The first step in proving to TMC that you want to work hard is getting through the recruiting process. Good luck.

I need to do something very soon, how long do I try to contact TMC? Is there really that big of a difference between the three companies? They all seem ok to me except Cypress does have old trucks even the recruiter told me that but well maintained so he said.

Well, if you can't get ahold of your recruiter, adapt and overcome. Talk to one of the other guys there in the office. I just finished my orientation with them last weekend and so far (2 weeks) they seem like a good company. I was one of 2 people in my class that got stuck waiting a week for a driving trainer but hey I did get a week at home with my wife so I cant complain too much. But back to your situation, talk to anyone in the recruiting dept. Talk to enough different people and your bound to find someone who can help you out.

Boy, red flags would if I had to continually call a recruiter over and over! Try Maverick! They were a good out fit when I worked for them, but they only had 300 trucks at the time!

Maverick is a great company to work for they will teach you the safe way to do things. I have been here a year now. It can be hard work at times but I like it gives you something to do besides sit behind a wheel all day.

It took me 3 months to get on there was a waiting list. The way I figure it if you have to wait to get on at a place they must be doing something right.
So give them a try if you give me a pm with your info I will put you in the QUALCOMM and they will give you a call.

As far as the mileage it depends on where you live and how hard you want to run. On avg. I get 22 to 2600 a week.

Hope this helps and remember flat-bedders like to get dirty

    Default red flags

I agree with the "Red Flag" theory. If a company won't take my calls and at least pretend they want me to work for them, I'm not wasting my time. Remember, YOU are interviewing THEM! It is the prospective employer who needs to prove that they will be a good company to work for before you even bother to tell them anything about yourself. When I go to an interview, I bring a clipboard with about 75 questions; like: What is the pay rate? Why do you have this vacancy? What do you pay for N.Y.C.? How much to tarp? What is the mileage based on (PC miler)? Beni's, and so on. If they are offended my my questions or don't have the answers, I say see ya latah! If a company won't take your calls now, what makes you think they'll take your calls when you are working for them? Other Red Flags are: Trucks have over a million miles, the yard is full of broken down or totaled trucks, there is no shop or the one mechanic they have can't even find his own ass with both hands. Remember, bad equipment and poor maintenance equal unsafe trucks and unpaid down time! (This has been an issue for me). On the other hand, if you walk through the door and they say "you're hired" before you tell them anything about yourself, turn around and RUN!! I will never, again, work for a company that doesn't care who they hire.
It ain't what you haul, It's how you haul it!

Of course they won't pay you a penny for doing anything besides sitting behind the wheel.

It took me 3 months to get on there was a waiting list. The way I figure it if you have to wait to get on at a place they must be doing something right.
Or their turnover rate is so high they cannot fit all the new drivers they need in the orientation room.

So give them a try if you give me a pm with your info I will put you in the QUALCOMM and they will give you a call.
And he will get a $500 referal if you actually do sign up with Maverick.

As far as the mileage it depends on where you live and how hard (read that as illegal) you want to run. On avg. I get 22 to 2600 a week.

True they dint pay much after you get out of the truck but it is a great place to start. They could pay more for tarping and detention time you have to weigh the good with the bad.

If you cant log 2500 miles a week legally you are wasting to much time in the truck stops. True sometimes you have to get creative but thats why they call it a coloring book isn't

Who wouldn't want a referral bonus. The way I see it the company is going to hire the help they need anyway why not get paid for helping!

Avoid Arrow unless you have issues with your MVR. I used to drive for them, and now drive for TMC. HUGE improvement.
