Anyone know anything about the salary position they offer out of atlanta ie. hometime
The salary run is $800 per week if you do not have hazmat...$825 if you do. It's primarily short haul freight running in about a 250 mile radius of the terminal.
You must be available for dispatch 5 1/2 days out of the week and you earn the salary, even if you sit the whole week. If you happen to run a lot of miles and your mileage pay would pay you more than the salary, then you would get the mileage pay.
If you are not available for dispatch for 5 1/2 days out of the week, you get the standard regional mileage pay.
Hometime is pretty much on the weekends, but because of the nature of the short haul freight, you have a good chance to be through the house during the week as well.
I,v been @ Heartland Express for 3 yrs. Things just keep getting worse.
On vac.Not goin back. Too much stress for this old man.
They could possibly be the worst company out there along with England and Prime . Drivers look at there pay per mile (which is hhg miles) and get excited . They offer nothing else , nothing .
At least for you. They offer nothing else , nothing3000 other drivers would probably differ with you.
I still don't understand your intolerable hatred for Heartland, Smooth. But it hasn't effected our bottom line yet. I'll be sure to let you know if it does.

Fact is, we are one of the few companies out there that have not reduced pay, one of the fewer that have not reduced speed, and one of those fewest still running comfortably in the black.
Heartland is as stable as ever. I'm not sure if you're still driving for them, but you cannot say the same thing about Yellow.
I don't have a hatred for Heartland , however the tactics they use to recruit drivers with there big cpm is a borderline scam . I'm making over 55 cpm at Yellow along with over $22 hourly wait time so I'm doing fine . How much detention does Heartland offer for there wait time ?Originally Posted by Twilight Flyer
heartland (heartless) is not a good company. they treat their drivers bad. they make you sit all day to make a 350 mile run at night. you have to fight to get detention. it is not worth the hassle
Heartland Express may stable,They may still b n the black, their trucks still run @ 64 miles an hour. That does not make them the greatest company to work for. their drivers still sit all day after taking a 10hr brk.empty out and sit for a fedex load that has to b ran overnite.no detention pay,no layover pay.just mileage. One of THE worst companys i have worked for. Heartland Care bucks.Thats a joke. They are too stuck on them selves to suit me. I do not recomend anyone to HeartLessExpress.. I,m just sayn!
I have been talking with Heartland for a few weeks about a Columbus, OH Regional position. I am not quite close enough to do the Columbus salaried. Do you have any insight regarding avg weekly miles, employee cost for health insurance, and general life with Heartland.
Heartland seems like a decent outfit and have me approved for hire. I have been at this trucking for 2-years and I am on my fifth company. Eventually, I would like to stay with a company for a while. But right now it seems there isn't a hill of beans difference between trucking companies. I guess companies keep hiring me because I am developing quite a list of previous employers that say good things about me! Plus I don't hit things or get tickets.
Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

after talking to yet another Heartland driver today.
.44 cpm for Regional out of Olive Branch( no hazmat )
now, is that .44 cpm HHG? or Practical-PCMILER? and finally--
is that .44 base pay or .43 + .01 safety(maybe) at the end of the year?
this driver I was speaking with stated that-
is the safety/production bonus included in that .44 or paid "in addition too- at the end of the year."
this driver also stated Heartland has a 450% turnover! and no one stays around long enough to collect the bonus. He was a "system driver"--
what's that? different from a OTR? Regional? Dedicated? System? What's the different distinctions?
In the end, all the other B.S. he said -- didn't really matter much to me-- I'm still interested in the Regional- home 3 weekends out of 4( as long as it's at least 34hrs) otherwise- might as well go back OTR for the better $$$. It can't be any worse that JBHUNT was 14 years ago--- and a guy can still make money there-- if he's willing to WORK.
Some issues do concern me..though...and I would be very upset ...to walk into orientation to find out ....something different...
like another Heartland driver stated-- during orientation I'll have to sign a form that states: If I terminate in under 6 months-- the motel fee, bus fee, and such expenses paid out getting me INTO orientation will be charged back to me( assuming I have a final check to take it out)??
While on that subject: is there any Driver Deposit? Escrow? etc that will be
deducted during the first several weeks of employment?
Thanks for all your answers.
We use Rand McNalley, zip to zip...so it's one of the HHG formats.now, is that .44 cpm HHG? or Practical-PCMILER?
7 years experience with hazmat pays $.44...without hazmat pays $.43, for regional. OTR pays $.05 more.is that .44 base pay or .43 + .01 safety(maybe) at the end of the year?
$.01 safety bonus is over and above that, paid annually on your anniversary date.is the safety/production bonus included in that .44 or paid "in addition too- at the end of the year."
LOL. That's a good one. Heartland has an overall turnover rate around 60% to 70% with the system driver (OTR) turnover rate down closer to 40%.this driver also stated Heartland has a 450% turnover! and no one stays around long enough to collect the bonus. He was a "system driver"--
System is OTR, out 10-14 days at a time, home usually every other weekend. Regionals are out 5-7 days at a time, home usually on the weekends (3 out of 4 is promised). Home time is generally 36-48 hours.what's that? different from a OTR? Regional? Dedicated? System? What's the different distinctions?
Nothing different. We're on salary as recruiters and if we "lie", we get in trouble first with management, then with orientation, then with driver communication, and finally with dispatch. It's not a pretty picture. So what we tell you is going to be the same thing you hear across the board from orientation to dispatch. Some issues do concern me..though...and I would be very upset ...to walk into orientation to find out ....something different...
The only thing charged back is a bus ticket, but I think it's only if you don't stay 90 days. I don't run the orientation aspect of it, so I'm not sure what the cutoff is on that. Motel and meals are not charged back.like another Heartland driver stated-- during orientation I'll have to sign a form that states: If I terminate in under 6 months-- the motel fee, bus fee, and such expenses paid out getting me INTO orientation will be charged back to me( assuming I have a final check to take it out)??
Not for company drivers, no.While on that subject: is there any Driver Deposit? Escrow? etc that will be deducted during the first several weeks of employment?
As far as the pros and cons, just weigh it all out and see if it's going to be a good fit for you.
* Crete will have longer lengths of haul and you're probably averaging more miles per week with them. Our regionals average around the 2100 to 2200 mark.
* You'll typically get better hometime with us, though. Being a short to medium haul fleet, we have better regionals and hometime than most of the other major carriers.
* We're forced dispatch, while Crete is not.
* You never have to worry about pay with us. Once you put that empty call into your qualcomm, those miles will be on your next paycheck. We use Transflo, so we don't wait for paperwork to show up.
Like I said, just make sure it's a change for the better for you. It does no one, not you or us, any good if you come aboard and stay for a couple weeks before leaving. Drivers at Heartland can make good money, there's no mistake. But as you said earlier, you have to be willing to work. We're not going to nickel and dime you, not going to run you illegal. But driving a truck isn't an easy job, as you know. You're not out there to see the sites. You're out there to deliver freight. It's hard work. But those guys that work, do quite well and typically stay for years.
I don't see what the fuss is all about! This is my opinion and MY opinion only y'all can disagree and say I don't know what I'm talking about all you want but here goes.
Me and my friend who drives for Star was talking about Heartland the other weekend. He says he is making about 30 cpm with them. He even said and I agree with him what most people are not comprehending is Heartland pays more per mile but you run less miles cause they are a SHORT-MEDIUM haul carrier. Why do you need more miles when your making 44-50 cpm as a COMPANY driver, I thought hometime would be important along with making a "decent" living and being able to put food on the table and have money left over for luxuries. If Heartland was a bad company they wouldn't have any drivers along with JB Hunt, Swift, and all them. When people say this company sucks I take it with a grain of salt unless they elaborate on it. If they have valid reasons I'll understand but if it's over stupid stuff such as they don't get you home then if you didn't request home time then that is YOUR fault. Blaming the company cause you can't make it as a truck driver is taking the sissy way out.
Now if they would just get rid of those Intertrashinal trux......
Tom
That is being done...at least kind of. The 9400-I is obsolete, so our new fleet will have to be something else. After testing several different trucks, it appears we'll be going with the International Pro-Stars. No idea when the first ones will hit the fleet, but the first half of the complete fleet renewel has just been recently ordered. Now if they would just get rid of those Intertrashinal trux......
Well I hope the Pro Star is better than the 9400 series were. I ran them at Cardinal and was seriously unimpressed with them.

my husband just completed orientation for a regional job with heartland express. he just left schneider national for more money and home time. the guys in orientation seem a little worried. inverters in trucks are not allowd so if you have a cpap machine or tv or a small refrigerator you are out of luck, the oc is small and the showers are filthy, if you come into an oc before 5pm be prepared for a mandatory inspection. seems like a lot of little crap that could add up to be miserable. my driver is looking to the positive for more home time and money...hopefully it is all worth it but we are a little worried that this may have been the wrong move. i guess we will find out when he finaly gets a truck, they are having him travel 600 miles to get his truck?hoping that there is a method to all the madness
Good luck to your husband at heartland , he will need it . If he's regional he will get home 3 out of 4 weekends , so it will end up being a paltry 6 days a month if he's lucky . As far as money , maybe he will do okay . They do screw you on regional compared to OTR and they pay HHG miles so take 10% off at least the hub miles ran .
They are welcome to inspect "their"truck anytime they want AND have "their" mechanics correct any deficiencies. I wouldn't complain about this, especially in the winter

Looks like I may be free for Orientation on Monday-- as I just beat this horse
to death over here at Shaffer-- looks like I'm stuck in North Carolina for the weekend with no freight-- actually since I only had 3 hours remaining on my
14 (tonight-Friday) and didn't accept the 600 mile- 3 day load that picked up
tonight 160 miles away or the 400 mile load for Monday afternoon. Night dispatch claims those two loads were all that's available in the state- this entire weekend. I've kinda decided tomorrow if Day crew can't scare up anything for me--- I'll probably clean out the truck in Greensboro.
I'm wondering if you have Orientation in Kingsport, Tn? on Monday or should I get a rental and aim for Olive Branch? This all went down after 5pm Friday- so, haven't been in a position to communicate with anyone-- either here at Shaffer or "other possibilities". I'll try and call Jason@Heartland this Morning(Saturday) but will probably be Monday?? before I actually find him?
That is if-- the waters haven't swept him away by now- up there.
