Any of the above on here? If so, how much actual 48 state running do you do? Are there regional positions that come open at various times? Are you averaging the 2400 miles per week that the recruiters state? Do you have to fight to get your home time?

6 days off a month. Request the days off in advance. Say you get in 18 hours late. Schneider will automatically extend your time at home by a day. Not sure about the miles. But, Schneider is an efficiently run company.

You will run empty about 30% of your miles hauling your "dirty" tank to a tank wash. No biggie, it pays the same as loaded, but no surge!

This past 2 weeks out I started in Pittsburgh, then to Florida, then Texas, then Louisiana, then South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, then back to Pittsburgh for another 3 day weekend at home. That's not too out of the ordinary for me. I normally set up home time to be 2 3-day weekends a month. So with being out only about 2 weeks at a shot I've not yet been sent all the way to the west coast.

So far I've hit roughly 35-40 of the 50 states, and have had many trips to Canada (15 in my first year)

Are there regional positions that come open at various times?

I've been offered a couple different regional positions, but didn't want them. Currently I prefer to run anywhere / everywhere. Though I would be quite happy to never have to go into NYC again! That alone makes me tempted to take something local or regional. Though now I think of it running out of the Puittsburgh area NYC just might be within the region.

No, I have to say I'm not getting that many miles. But if you run in a different area your miles could very well be different from mine. Also a different home time sked could change your miles.

According to the statement I just recently got in the mail, from April '07 through March '08 I ran just over 105,000 miles.

Do you have to fight to get your home time?

There's been a few times that the load schedulers set up loads that would have made it impossible to get my home time as scheduled. Some times I just put up with it, and talk to my STL about pushing out the back end so I still get the amount of time at home. In fact this weekend is one of those occasions - should have been back to the yard by 0600 Saturday but couldn't make it till noon. Other times I've managed to either get the load relayed somewhere or simply get myself taken off the load - usually by calling my STL (if during office hours) or extended ops.

Hi: Not to be nosey, but after a year with Schneider National Bulk what do your earnings look like?

I don't mind. The previous 12 months (April '07 - March '08) my gross earnings were a bit over $49,000. I should point out that this is not my first year - late August will be my 3 year mark. I'm currently running at $0.41 / mile.

When I first started I was getting $0.30 / mile, with a raise to $0.31 after 6 months (I think it was) and $0.36 at the 1 year mark (if memory serves). I've got a lousy memory, so I could easily be a bit off there.

Thanks, mbadriver and reznaeous, for the responses. When I asked, I was talking to a Schneider recruiter, looking to go Bulk. I've been away from driving long enough that I have to go through their school again, as a refresher. And sign the 18 month indenture contract. But I got a job offer to drive a Expediter truck, so gonna give that a try 1st.

My personal experience.

I was a recent truck school grad. schneider gave me a road test, and decided i needed more training.

So they dropped me into their training program, no harm, no foul. I signed no contract, i was under no committment.

In fact, since had graduated my truck school within 90 days of starting with Schneider, they actually reimbursed me for my truck school tuition at the rate of $200 a month!

So, the short answer is that if you do not use schneider to get a CDL, you will not be beholden to them.

That was my original understanding, from info on this forum and a couple of others. But the recruiter said different, and that I would be just like a non CDL trainee, except I wouldn't have to test out.

Perhaps I'll talk to another recruiter.

I am interested in driving bulk truck. I have 6 months experience. but havent driven for about a year.

would Schneider be a good company to drive for?
I am based out of Denver.

also I would need a refresher course I guess if they require it, would I have to sign the 18 month contract, since I already have my CDL?

Just a update. I decided to pass on the expediter truck gig and go with Schneider for Bulk. Will be done with STA here in Carlisle on Friday, then 2 days bulk soecific training in Coraopolis PA next Sat & Sun.

Everything going good except it's taking me longer than I expected to get used to getting up on the cat walk. Never had a problem with heights, maybe it's just my age and lack of youthful flexibility!

I still don't have the actual criteria as to what determines who goes into what training (except for people without a CDL) and have to sign the agreement. My shifting and backing were somewhat rusty, but I've been helping supposedly experienced drivers and recent CDL grads with map reading, trip planning and QualComm homework. So go figure.

For convoykris, best bet would be to talk to a recruiter. He or she could best answer your question.
