    Default Convenant Experiment part deux

I'm sure alot of you remember my post a while ago saying I'd see how Covenant Transport is with their drivers. And up to recently we (they put you in teams before solo) had been running about 6000 miles a week. But lately due to frieght shortage or someone in the load planning office having head-in-***** syndrome, we have been sitting alot. Last week I had my hometime scheduled for the 22nd thru 27th with non refundable tickets and reservations during my hometime, but what happens? Thats right you guessed it, NO fricken loads to my home state of Washington. They said that there was nothing going up there, but for some reason I have to raise the BS flag on them. So needless to say, I got home almost a week late and as my newlywed wife was getting off the vacation that we planned several months back.

As usual, the hometime was great. Now I've been back on duty for 4 days and I all we have gotten was one small load from Toledo, Oregon to Wallalula, Washington. Whoopdie doo, its 900 miles total, and with it going into the weekend, I doubt they will get us anything until monday. Which sucks *****.

Another thing that sucks about this company, is just recently they have been cracking down on people that are idling. I dont remember when they started it, but now if you're above a certain percentage (25% for teams and 30% for solo), they charge you $5 an hour for every hour of idle. They are even doing it to the very few drivers that have the APU's. I dont remember their usage max, but thats fricken ridiculous. This company doesnt care one bit for their employees. I mean seriously, what the heck is the drivers supposed to do when it gets to below freezing in the winter months and hotter than heck in the summer months? Sufffer? I mean come on. They are supposedly about safety and following the laws regarding idling, but this is too much.

To add insult to injury, they will let us use Idle Aire, but we have to pay for it. They wont reimburse us nothing, and they will let us stay in hotels for a reimbursable expense of less than $35, but where are you gonna find a hotel at that price? Sure as heck isnt gonna be in a good community.

Hmm... Maybe one of these days I'll type some excerpts from the employee handbook.

So now onto the other stuff, anyone know if CFI is hiring drivers? I have a preventable accident that happened on 14 October 2007 (resulted in my first moving violation). Would that be a hindrance of me getting on with them? Or Knight Transportation?

Freight in and out of the NW sucks and has for a long time. Most of what freight there is up there is pretty much controlled by the companies based in that area. What I really suggest you doing is trying to get on with a carrier based in WA or OR. If you do I think you find it a lot easier to get home when you want to go home.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

You can bet the "Palace"' in Chattanooga is kept cooled and heated. Gotta ask, why did you think you'd get home in the window you requested? Freight has never been that certain.
Is the lumber mill in Omak still going? Been there, ran up there from Coulee City after delivering landfill liner from Houston. BOL

Coulee City? Seems like a rather appropriate name.

Why don't you give Gordon Trucking a shout? They are based up that way.

To add insult to injury, they will let us use Idle Aire, but we have to pay for it.
Well I would hope they let you use it if your paying for it out of your own pocket. Tell me your not asking for permission to use Idle Aire. I have heard of drivers complaining about their company not allowing them to eat.........because they are QC-ing them aking for permission to do so. Some drivers need to go back home to mommy and let her hold your hand with everything you want to do.

If I worked for a company that didn't have an APU on the truck ans was going to deduct money out of my paycheck for idling I would be out the door immediately. Especially if they aren't running you a lot. Getting below 30% idle time is hard to do when it's real cold out or real hot especially when they got you sitting a lot. When I didn't have a APU in the winter my idle time would be around 40-50 percent and that was shutting the truck off every chance I could. In the summer I could get it down to 10-20 percent but only because I always run during the day and sleep at night when the sun wasn't beating on the truck. 8) 8)

I already have some applications out already, so its only a matter of time before I hear something back. And yes, that "palace" in Chattanooga has the AC on when I was there a couple months ago.

They'll "let" you use IdleAir at your own expense? Well, gee...how freakin' nice of them. :x I'm annoyed 'cause our company doesn't cover the $10 window adaptor.
