Your words, not mine. For starters, you keep implying that your experience may be different because of your gender. Nothing wrong with that. Just own it. Refer to an earlier post of mine where I suggest that you simply start posting your experiences and stop asking what people will think. Posing such a silly question immediately opens the door for any type of discourse. Because it is not what you had in mind, does not make it wrong.

Lastly. Driver to Driver. I really hope that it all comes together for you. Additionally, I will heed your wishes and refrain from further questioning of your motives. However your experience turns out, I am sure that it will be of help to someone on the board. That is something I definitely would not want to get in the way of. Now get to work

I would be interested in any new information that anyone has to give about JB Hunt, and any other carriers out there.

The info I have is old and out of date.

And thanks to all of those who remember me.

    Default JUST POST YOUR EXPERIENCES

Kind of like everrtrucker does - but not quite as much detail and embellishment.

It'll make for an interesting thread and then you won't have dopes like Belpre122 trying to engage in nonsensical arguments. Frankly, I think he's the one seeking attention

Been with them a year now. They are what they are I guess. You'll like them some weeks and then other weeks you'll want to strangle your Qualcom. I have to scratch and claw to get more than 2500 miles a week. I've learned that wasting my time talking to a night/weekend dispatcher is just as beneficial to me as going into the truck stop and screaming at the nearest brick wall.

They're getting cheaper and cheaper by the day. I'm taking my first earned 7 day vacation next month in Dayton. I'm told I have to drop my truck off in Columbus before I go to Dayton. Fine...reimburse me for the rental/cab to Dayton, right? Nope. So it's going to cost me $150 just to GET to my place of vacation. This is the bgigest reason I'll be splitting ways with them at the end of the year.

They're a good company to get your first 1-2 years with, but I honestly can't imagine having a career with them.

I also haven't been west of Kansas City in an entire year of being an "OTR" driver with them.

    I say go for it.

I had a good experience with JB Hunt, but some don't?

Go for it, Soladad !! After reading so much about JB, mostly from folks who've never actually worked there, it'll be quite illuminating to know what it's truly like, warts and all, from someone who actually works there . And judging from your previous posts from your Roehl days, I think you can be trusted to keep things informative and objective.

Making this short and sweet...I told JB goodbye after just 2 days. Was not going to drive a old worn out condo tractor (443000 miles) that must have been a training truck. This truck came with a badly worn and broken down seat, crappy transmission and poor maintenance. They refused to talk about a different truck. I told them unless I had a truck that was fit to drive and did not leave you with severe lower back pain by the end of an 11 day I was done. The thought of driving up and down I-5, over the Siskiyou Pass, for weeks at a time in that truck was not an option in my book for what I was being paid. Give me equipment I could work safely, effectively and with reasonable wear and tear on my body then it was a go. I spent my time in two old worn out trucks during my first year with Roehl. I refuse to put my back and body through that beating again. Orientation was a joke. They did not cover nearly half of info you needed to know to do the job. I drew totally on my previous background but felt sorry for those who did not have a good OTR background. By the 2nd day of orientation I knew I had made a very wrong decision in thinking I could run for JB. Safety and quality equipment just was not there. So there it is, guys. Take it for what it is worth. I'm done with being a company driver. The evolution started in last year before I left Roehl and now has taken place. I made the decision to go as an I/C. I know that to some of you this is not the time to be jumping in but there never is a good time. Getting tired of others commanding my ship. Time to take my life and future back into my own hands.

    So I'm guessing there won't be a page 4? :P

Sorry it didn't work out for you Soladad. Best in your I/C venture!

Congratulations on going IC. I have been thinking of doing the same. The more I talk to IC's the less intimidating it seems. Talking with one the other day and he basically stated if you are shutting down over fuel costs then you don't know what your doing. With the fuel surcharge he said his cost for diesel is $1.05 a gallon. But you got to know how to do the paperwork AND turn it in like right now. Now is a good time to get in because the herd is moving out and trucks are dirt cheap.

Best of luck and let us know how the IC experience goes.
