Just like all the rest!!! Got as far as orientation then left! all automatics in trucks or coming soon! There were just bought up by someone and i cant think of who! Who are u talking to in recruiting? R u A SCHOOL GRAD?![]()
HI
No I just graduated. I heard this company pays pretty well. But, they dont pay medical for 6 months.
Surprise, I never worked for them - but I have an opinion![]()
I was in a Loves truck stop the other night. One of their drivers pulled in going about 35 mph. Slammed his truck into a parking space. Surprised he didn't hit anything - he was in High Range reverse and had it floored. He sat there for maybe a half hour. Then raced out of the truck stop. I am just sitting there drinking a beer and wondering what the heck is wrong with this guy - driving like a total maniac in a truck stop - sure as heck wouldn't want to be around him on the highway. His truck was filthy - I can understand road grime, but it looked like he cleaned his windows and mirrors with a grease rag.
My conclusion -
1. Guy was just a total pig.
2. PTL had really gotten to him
3. Found out his wife was free agent with his best friend.
Option 3 is unlikely. I know there is supposed to be someone for everyone, but this clown just may be the exception.
I deduced it was Options 1 & 2.
Hope this helps.![]()

I worked for PTL as a company driver several years ago for a couple of months. I would have stayed longer, but at that time I made more money in break down pay than I did driving. They were short on trucks as they were having drivers turn in the old ones before having replacements, plus they were doing two a week orientations. I was lucky to get a truck, but the thing had problems and was constantly breaking down on me.
The available truck issue at that time was ridiculous. Average wait when I went through orientation for a truck was 1 week. When I started having breakdown problems it was up to 2 weeks. At that time they paid new hires $80 to sit in a motel and wait. Current drivers who were waiting on a new truck were paid $100 a day.
The pluses.
No forced New England or Canada: Extra pay if you choose to go into either one.
No forced loading or unloading.
No problems getting break down pay or getting them to pay for a motel if need be.
Paycheck always correct.
Nice terminal in Murray.
Never a problem getting home
Good runs when truck was running.
Most trailers had air slide tandems.
Usually realistic pick up and delivery times and no problems getting appointments reset if need be.
No problems getting layover pay.
Like I said if it had not been for the truck and being unable to get in a different one I would have stayed a lot longer than 2- 2 1/2 month.
I don't understand why the driver you seen MBA had such a dirty truck. When I was there drivers were routed through a terminal with a truck wash on a weekly basis and it was mandatory the truck and trailer get washed every visit. In fact at Murray you could not leave the fuel bay without going through the truck wash unless it was after 7 pm. Also the wash bay was not an automatic one. They washed them by hand.
Of course this was about 5 years ago, so who knows what may have changed since then.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

Just another low-paying run-of-the-mill OTR coolie carrier. If you're broke, homeless, or have no other options they might be OK. Otherwise avoid them like the plague.
Don't know why anyone would want to sit in a truckstop period.Originally Posted by kips41

It was a Friday night. I was on a 34-hour vacation.

Actually they pay more for orientation and training than other carriers. I dont know how many miles a week they average.
What trucking company would u consider better than run of the mill COLD?? If u were based in St.louis and wanted to be home as much as possible?
thanks
Crunchy do not bother with CFM unless you want to be a slave to the Teamsters Union he will always be against you and any OTR companies.
Ditto that.Originally Posted by ironeagle2006

I'm supposed to take orientation at PTL on wednesday. I'm a little apprehensive about going because they seemed so eager to hire me. I only have 1 yr otr and came from schneider.
I think he said most of their freight is in or originates from the south? Does this sound familiar to anyone?
What type of heat is available in the truck w/o idling? Just one of the bullet heaters or what? What are the idle standards?
What types of freight is being hauled? Stuff you have to deliver to strip malls or distribution centers or construction materials, car parts, paper (scrap or otherwise), medical supplies??
Are there any bonuses?
How does tah work? I got the impression you just stay out and when you decide to go home you send in a request and they'll get you home eventually? (w/in 5 days if you are lucky) How did you handle dr appts?
Thanks
WHOSE UR RECRUITER?? Just curious!
Best way to handle doctors appointments is to make them for a Monday, and request to be home the Friday or Saturday before, and then leave out after your appointment. Just be sure to let your dispatcher know that is what is going on. This generally works well at any company.

Doesnt matter who my recruiter is because they all lie or embellish or choose to omit information, right?Originally Posted by ohio joe

Why would a guy like u with 1 year experience want to work for Paschal anyway? Did they guarantee u 2500+ miles a week?
Crunch
first, I'm female.
I quit schneider for reasons I dont choose to discuss.
I have 2 preventables in my first year of experience and have been rejected by several companies, either because of the preventables or because of the location of my residence in WV.
I have looked at several companies. I choose not to make a habit out of night deliveries, so a company like heartland is out. Crete rejected me due to two preventables. I have not applied at swift or werner. I do not want to pull reefer because I don't have the patience to sit in docks and deal with people who think they are doing me a favor by unloading me. Flatbedding is a challenge I'm not physically able to meet yet.
I have applied at several other companies but again, due to my location in WV, I seem to not be in their hiring area.
OK cdljobs-guy, that sounds like a reasonable post. More reasonable than just saying "dont". All I want is information so that I can make my own decision.
My other choices are Interstate and Celadon at the moment. Neither of which are much better in my opinion. I do not want to drive local. I do not want to habitually be stuck in the NE. Both of these companies, and PTL, claim to work mostly the south, texas, and midwest.
No one guaranteed me any amount of miles. Miles do not motivate me. As a member of the fairer sex, the intangibles are more interesting. No I do not want much home time, except for Dr appts. single and willing to stay out 3-4 weeks. I want to be able to take my truck home and I want to be able to take my TAH where I feel like. PTL offers me this right now.
If you had suggestions...
I have read posts on every company I have applied to. I just do not seem to be having any luck.
I cant find any info on them either. And its not that I don't want to go with them, I just havent been motivated I guess. I have filled out the app and am waiting on a final interview which should happen tomorrow.
PTL was offering more cents on the mile and seemed to fit my geographic desires. Interstate meets those wants also, but the tah was a little crappy. As I said before I don't need alot, but I want 5 days at home a month. Cant find my notebook now but it was only 7 days out to earn 1 day? And they had no bonuses. Bonuses arent a dealbreaker, but PTL had them.
so I wanted info on PTL, and I guess until I heard something I didnt like, I wouldn't have mentioned interstate.
What can you tell me about them.... or perhaps I should start another topic..
