Holy crap! What a ripoff! Sounds like an OTR training company. I wouldn't pay them one penny.

If I wanted to get an LTL job ABF would be at the top of my list. I would never ever drive for UPS or Fedex.

I work For Fedex Freight, Its not the best company but its not the worst...
I have been lucky the last couple of years with moving up the board and now have a good DAY TIME line haul run.

Daytime linehaul! You're my hero! I run linehaul for UPSF but we dont have day runs at my little EOL terminal.

thanks for the kind words gentlemen. I hope that all of YOU make it to retirement also. It's not great getting older (LOL- WHATS my ALTERNATIVE ??) but it is nice finally having a choice in my day as to what I want to do. I see the current state of the economy and I fear for all the decent jobs left in this industry. It seems like once again, it's "lets squeeze the driver time-because we can't think of anything better to do"...I hope freight picks up quickly for all of you and I can read your posts about working too much again soon. Don't be so quick to give up on the Teamsters yet, when people get tired enough of their working conditions is when they are most likely to do something about it. I'll still be hanging around in case of any questions re: UPS..

    Hey Feederfred,
Well we just had our first contract proposal meeting yesterday with local 385 in Central Florida. I must say it is looking pretty good or at least not bad, the contract should be much better in 2013 when we have all of ground with us as well. In general though I am very happy with what they are saying and am looking forward to being a teamster in the next two months or so...

Hi Timberwolf. Just make sure you ask ALL the questions you want answered. Do NOT be intimidated by anyone. Now is the time. Contract openers (especially UPS Freight-Jimmy wants to LOOK REAL GOOD on this one) are always the best time to press whatever issues you are concerned about. I am still an organizer for IBT (part-time) and they want this contract handled with the proverbial "kid-gloves"...So don't hesitate to put in whatever you want. You may not (and probably won't-hey, I'm a realist)get it, but it never hurts to ask.

Well our local president did not sugar coat anything and pretty much said the same as you, that this first contract will not be as good as the ones in the future as we are only 7000 strong right now 12000 if all of the freight division climbs aboard. However in 2013 we will be over 200,000 strong so I am planning now to be financialy prepared just in case. It feels right so hopefully it will work out.

    Have a great week

heres the deal with ABF 2 year program.
Union says its illegal to hold you to that contact.
ABF tried to send me a 6000 dollar bill for the training they made me go to. then they let me go because i wasnt a "good fit" for the dock. Whatever.

anyway, i called the union and the said NO WAY. ABF quickly dropped the bill.
