Default Wisconsin based companies for the NEWBIE

What are you suggestions for the best Wisconsin based company for me. I am looking for reginal , dedicated or local. I would really like to be home every couple of days and weekends. Ok now that everyone is laughing their arses off. Thats what Im hoping to find. Im leaning towards flatbed or tanker - I would think these would keep me closer to home. Im located in / near Appleton area.

    well,

Gordon Trucking has a office in Green Bay area/ and a training program / and regional fleet.

    Millis- is there in Wisconsin

    Roehl-

    WEL-

    Schnider

How much of a newbie are you? This might limit some of your avail options.

The tanker yankers- can suggest several also I bet, as they would know which tanker outfits hire limited experience drivers.

    REAL GREEEEEEEEEEN
I start classes after the first right now Im looking at options to keep me closer to home. I just dont want to get stuck out for a couple weeks on end. Im actually looking at getting into UPS, ABF etc. But I need some practical experience when I get done. The bad thing about the school here is its 9 weeks long full time during the day 43 hours a week. So I have to leave my day job and pick up a part time thing. Im hoping I could get a dock worker job at one of the LTL companines around here while Im in school and them maybe start driving for them. If that doesnt pan out then on to a reginal job.

    Yep..smart thinking...

If you can get on at UPS, Fed-x, Coke or any of these local, LTL, companies
    you'll do well for yourself.

Roehl has a terminal in Kaukauna. Right next door to them is Overnight or whatever they are called now, and next to that is mw trucking. Could also try Paper Transort in GreenBay or John Veriha out of Marinette.
Don't trust anybody. Especially that guy in the mirror.

Yeah , they are right next to UPS Freight . I used to go there all the time , the mechinacs there are pretty good to compared to most of the other terminals . Paper Transport requires 2 years exp. and Veriha requires 1 year so that's probably not happening .

I would call Roehl to see if they have any local jobs if you want to be home though . The pay I believe is 14.50 an hour to start with at least 50 hours a week , no weekends .

I just spoke with Roehl - they dont have "local" routes in the Appleton or Green Bay area. I will try a differant recruiter this afternoon.

Yeah , sometimes they do , sometimes they don't . Just depends on if they have any openings at the right time .

Monson hires out of Mauston. They say their drivers are home on weekends.

WH Transportation-they can get you home every weekend or you can stay out for 10 days and be home for 3.

I KNOW Roehl has local runs out of Kaukauna, but I think you need some experience OTR to get them.

I picked up a relay load out of Oak Creek, which was relayed by a local driver out of Kaukauna. He was an older guy, and likely has been with Roehl for quite some time.

    Wolf River,
Give NM Transfer a call. They'll hire you for the dock or a yard horse. You could work 2nd or 3rd shift while your still in school. Once you've graduated (Fox Valley) they'll send you out with a trainer to become a driver. The turnover is very low and they seldom hire a (no experience) driver. Business picks up in the spring and you might find yourself in the right place at the right time. When and if you become a driver, your days will be long, 5 days a week, but you'll sleep in your own bed every night, make good money with great benefits. Not many fresh faces in this business have an opportunity like that. (You do because of where you live). It's not all roses, but as good as it gets for a newbie. Also, there are expedited opportunities for CDL and non CDL drivers. Talk to Jenny in HR (recruiting)

W.H doesn't get you home for 3 days, your lucky if you get home for 1 day. My husband is interested in this company. They find routes for you that keeps you away from home. they keep you at their hub for days on end.If you need repairs done on your truck that can take along time too. That's what I have been told from people who work there. People have told me that they do start you off good with pay per mild. If anyone has any info about this company let us know. Thanks in advance.

Thats interesting considering my friend who drives for them runs for 10 days then is home for 3. And the other guy here in town that drives for them is home every weekend.

I don't know, I was wondering if the husbands just enjoy staying gone and that's what they tell their wives. I just want to make sure so if my husband does drive for them, we get to see him.

toolady- I just spoke to Mary at WH and she said that you are guaranteed 1.5 days for every week your out or you could go out for 10 days with the 3 days off. They don't specifically guarantee home weekends but most of their drivers are home on the weekends.
