Any new info on Knight?
Anyone knows about the Discount Tire Account? I start next monday out of Dallas,Tx.
Bumping up this old thread to ask just a few questions. Are there any drivers that are currently running for Knight Refrigerated division? I have an orientation date for Lakeland FL. I heard some info from a friend of a friend that ran for Knight. He only ran for them for 3 months straight out of school, and he claimed that the shops wouldn't fix the equipment when he was not at his home terminal. Is this really the way a company as large as Knight operates?

FINALLY MADE BACK OTR!
Knight now offers "daily pay" get paid today for what you did yesterday. Just another "coolie carrier" ploy to attract the destitute dwellers.
I applied online this morning. Recruiter called 30 min after I hit "submit". We went over the basic qualification criteria and she told me I was good-to-go for orientation. I expressed my concern regarding coming to orientation before they had completed all background checks. She said she would call me back after running the checks. 20min later, she's on the phone again and says I look good and would I like to start on Mon or Tues.
I said sure, that's fine and I'm supposed to hear back on Thurs or Fri with hotel info since I'm driving myself. So clearly they haven't done previous employer checks yet. I figure I should call back Friday to make sure they have checked with everyone they need to before I go. I went thur that scenario once before with a major carrier. I don't want to wind up unemployed...
Make sure your recruiter has completed the employment verification as well as the background before you go to orientation! It seems that they are doing that down here in Lakeland FL since all 9 attendees are still here after day 2. I got jerked around at the last minute when my recruiter called me on the Friday before my Monday orientation start date. My orientation was set up for over a month and at the last minute safety put a hold on my app and said I could not attend orientation because my application was over 30 days old, and it appeared to have an overlap between two companies. I had to scramble at the last minute to resubmit my app and was of course calling every other company I had originally applied at since I had already left my previous job and would be unemployeed on Monday. Fortunately it all worked out and I was given the green light at 1645 on Friday afternoon!
richieryan, you may want to browse my other post on this site, Going back OTR after running local for the last 8 months where I have been posting updates on my current orientation! Good Luck!

FINALLY MADE BACK OTR!
Knight Updates? ...
Knight was my last job (dry van side, Tulsa) left early 2010 to re-retire. Been away a while and thinking about returning to OTR. Any current Knight van drivers ...
When I had left, they had stopped paying (reimbursing) for a once-a-month truck wash (Tulsa, anyway), is this still in place?
Also, there was talk about moving to ELogs. Are they still on paper? Rumors about ELogs coming on line there?
Is their shortage of available MT's at Walmart and Target DC's and SoCal still "very problematic" or has that eased up a bit?
Are they still penalizing for high-idle in summer months (reduced speed), while not providing APU's?
At the time, it seemed Refrigerated was staying busier than dry, I assume this is still true?
Thanks
Any other issues cropped up lately with them? I was doing well with them mileage-wise on balance, but the issues I mentioned were hard to ignore.
Yep. Just wondering about Knight also.
Spoke to a recriuter in their Squire Division about driveng with them. But I'd like to he from current drivers if any on this board.
Thanks
I can tell you that the small office I ran out of (Tulsa) was good. From what I had heard, I was glad to run out of Tulsa, as opposed to Olive Branch, Charlotte, and some others. Never had any serious payrole issues, and minor issues were promptly corrected, always reimbursed tolls. From my perspective, they could quickly determine the producers and the slackers and the driver would get loads accordingly. They are not perfect by any means and they will have their slow markets and busy, high-mileage weeks if you're at the right place at the right time. Dry van arriving empty in Phoenix and Southern Cal was almost a guarantee of getting a 36Hr reset.
There was a certain degree of "terminal politics" i.e. if you're in your home market (and it's a small branch terminal), you stand a better chance of them "holding" a "good" load waiting on a branch driver to MT B4 entering the load, then immediately assigning it. Always communicate (but keep it short and to the point on Qualcom) and don't screw around and Knight could be a good fit for many. But if they are moving to ELogs, I doubt most of the high producers will do consistently well once that happens, there.
The little volvos that weren't taken care of would not be good to have to spend a year in, and you will always need to be on the lookout for open Petes or other newer truck when you get to your home terminal and don't hesitate to ask to move if/when you see one.
Most of their Walmart is drop and hope there is a hook, if not, prepare to literally fight another driver to get one as it's pulled out of the door as there will certainly be 3 or 4 drivers scrambling for the ONE MT ... they will not mark you as available for load until you are hooked up to an MT.

I'm going to Knight's orientation next monday at the Gulfport Terminal. Any advice, information or news that might help me out? I've got 4 months OTR with Werner, and am a CDI/TDI graduate, with no accidents, violations, continously drug tested for over 25 years with no bad tests or refusals.
Before going to Knight make sure you want to work for a company that does stuff like this in a Fatal accident. My Cousin who is a higher up Superviser at a Major Insurance carrier went HOLY CRAP when he read this and was like that Insurer that they have is going to tell them YOUR ON YOUR OWN for all damages. Knight he Estimates and he is in Actuary aka they guys that go is it worth paying the claim said Knight is looking at roughly between 200-500 MILLION in PUNITIVE damages alone because of their actions. Let alone the Compenasory Damages to the Victim in this case. ashton v. knight transp., inc. - Google Scholar
