    Default Help, SEC driving school

I'll try to be brief, I need some advice.

I'm an experienced truck driver, who has been out of driving since 2000. I want to get back into it because I have college loans up the butt and I can't find a decent-paying job.

I live in Jackson, Mississippi and there's a driving school here called SEC. They feed KLLM Carriers and Swift. They have a refresher course for CDL-A licensed drivers like me for $1,500.

First of all, I don't want to work for Swift or KLLM. But I do want to get back on the road.

Is SEC a good deal for a 13-day refresher course? Is it accredited? I didn't really get a good answer from the company rep when I asked about accreditation. She just said she could help me find a job.

So anyone have any experience with SEC driving school down here in Jackson?

Anyone have any other advice that might apply to my situation?

I have a clean driving record and no felonies or misdemeanors.

    I appreciate any help.

A few questions if you do not mind.

Do you still have your Class A CDL?

How much experience did you have before coming in off the road?
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

    Hey man, thanks for responding.

I worked OTR for 2 years from the spring of '96 to the fall of '98, then I did a local route until 2000, then I went to college -- made excellent grades -- but it was a big mistake in leaving the road. Everyone has a college degree these days. Decent paying jobs are hard to find. Student loans are hard to pay off.

the last year I drove OTR, I made like $41,000. Today I make $27,000 at a crummy job and I have no insurance. I have no family, few friends here, and I'm just plain ready to leave.

I have my CDL, Class A. I've always made sure to renew it, and I have medical card.[/list]
