    Default Superior carriers follow up

I do have tanker haz endorsement. and I read the tanker yanker thread and all that I can find from the promo boyz.. The boyz keep posting to do the math, and “you can't eat chrome”, so I did.

    Results:
Going from shinny red 06 Volvo 780 to the only unseated tractor left - 03 FLD, autoshift to a 10sp. What does this mean???? The results of doing the math, had USX paid me under Superior Carriers' pay schedule I would have made almost twice - double – ka- ching ka-ching ka-ching ka-ching - mucho more$$$$ money than what I made. WOW - Numbers don't lie.

USX a carrier with a 115% to as much as 140% turnover carrier to a 30% turnover carrier, another big factor. Low turn over means driver satisfaction.

So I called Superior Carriers, completed an app, went to HP term for interview.

Pre quailfied, did driving test yesterday, do phy and drug, Fri noon.

What hurts is coming from an autoshift steering wheel holder back to a 10 sp truck driver. Newbies reading this, take this advice, ( i'm not the only one who will tell you this) go with a manual tranny trucking co. get shifting down pat. the only whay I got through the driving test was to call back on my initial driving experiences: I earned my way through college driving B85 and a DM860 with a 5/2 tranny and a IH 1070 238DD 10sp. I could shift. You don't forget that but you get rusty.

Oh yea, don't forget, HEY cyanide, its time to pay up. HP knows you but not skywalker, so u got to split w/sky and me.

Thx Cyn & Sky for your info.

I didn't like an autoshift except in heavy traffic. I think the truck I was driving was messed up anyways.

    Default More barbeque?! lol

    Congrats Qpaw!

Hope everything went well for you Friday (studied hard for that test I'm sure! ). And thank you for the reference if you used me, though I think you would have to give them my driver # (8184). You are more than welcome for all of the info I've been able to provide. Yes, I'm still slacking on vacation and loving it! Guess eventually I will have to get back to work though!

I think you'll like working with Scott there in High Point. Who are they going to put you with there for training, or do you know that yet?
And just wait til you get to go to Kingsport for your week of fun. Ooops, I mean orientation!!! I don't know many of the drivers out of your yard except for an I/C who runs dedicated. I can't remember his name, but he drives a Maroon/Magenta W-900 with a 86" Studio sleeper...very nice truck!

Anyway, I'm confident you'll be happy here, especially once you learn the system and how everything works. Of course, it may help also once you start rolling in equal or higher pay with much fewer miles compared to running the ol' dry van! please keep us posted and don't be a stranger. be safe and have fun!

I had my driving test and physical on Monday. I am finishing up some loose ends this week and will begin training Tuesday after labor day. Driving test was a nice change of pace. Usually you just putz around the block but we took a dirty tank to the tank wash and brought back a clean one. It was probably thirty miles. I haven't driven a ten speed in ages only thirteen or eighteen but my trainer didn't expect perfection so no big deal. I takes a few days of driving a different transmission to learn the spacing between gears and proper gear for a given speed.

The terminal manager I will be working for is retired military and a great guy so I truly look forward to working for this company. I was an owner operator before and sold my truck so it may be a little different for a while but I wanted to get tank training and make sure I like it before buying my next truck and paying to outfit it with pump, compressor, and ITH. I will be running the system so I will be looking for phone numbers from you guys soon. I would like to meet up with you guys somewhere on the road and I am sure I will need to call on occasion looking for a good place to sleep close to shippers and receivers as truck stops in some parts of the country are not pleasant.

Thanks for the info and I will collect on my barbecue. I grew up in High Point and know where to get the best.

    mudpuddle... Welcome aboard!!!

Just let me know when you are out there and what your truck # is. Also, when you get with the "trainer"...ask him to show you his "policy or Terminal Book". In that book are the locations of each of our terminals, and our sister company "Carry Transit". Each terminal has a page to itself, to include accurate directions. You will find that quite often the terminals will be very convenient places to take your breaks. Normally showers are available though there are one or two that you can't access unless the office is open.

Some have fuel, some don't. But they are all nice and quiet for the most part. The only thing about Carry's terminals....is if you have a "placarded" load you may not be able to park there, with the exception of Lakeland, FL, where you can park because Superior and Carry share the yard....and most all of Superiors local guys there pull loads of acid or molten sulphur.

I imagine we will meet up pretty soon... Hope so. Have fun!!
