Default So I Just Got A GREAT Job!!!

As many of you know I've been trying to get a local driving job for about a month now.... and to be honest.... I was getting a little scared that I would be forced into a regional or OTR position! Anyways, So I get a call last Tuesday and Interview Wednesday..... and GOT THE JOB!!! Its a local LTL carrier with FREE benefits for the entire family.... and its home every night, roughly 50 hours a week at $19hr.!!! My family is SO greatful and were estatic at this point.... WOOO HOOO!!!!!!!

In the spirit of the forums and sharing info, please tell us. I didn't know the national chains would go from interview to hire in 1 weeks time. If it's a quality Mom-n-Pop, I doubt they would mind the good publicity.

There is no such thing as "free" benefits. Salary and benefits(eg. health insurance, vacation time, retirement plan, etc.) are part of the total compensation package to you. Also, a company does NOT pay payroll taxes(eg. FICA and Medicare) because that is the cost of the labor you perform for the company. It would ONLY be "free" if you were not required to do anything to receive it. Generally, companies require you to work for them to get benefits even if you are a union thug .... Uh, member.

OK. I'll restate it. It must be a Teamsters job because they are the only ones who offer health insurance and retirement pension plan at NO COST to the employee.

I applied online to Transport America, then called their driver recruitment line a few minutes later. Two hours later they called back with a job offer, having already checked my driving record, called all my references and my driving school. I was damn impressed.

I drove for 15 months then quit for nearly a year. When I called back to ask about working for them again, the job offer came less than 3 minutes later.

OTR company's will hire as fast as they can, LTL company's rarely do that. Getting hired in a weeks time with a LTL company is almost unheard of.

Agreed. He was probably offered the job at the interview pending a full background, DMV, and pee test. I wish him luck. BTW He never mentioned a pension I assume He meant medical coverage and Conway only charges 1% of your pay which might as well be free. I believe Pitt/Ohio and Dayton Freight have no charge, possibly Mid States too, I had a cousin there and I think I recall it was no charge. Believe it or not Mid States even has a small company paid pension, although their pay is the worst out there.

You still here man? With your LTL job and hometime, you have plenty of time to reply.
What was the company you got hired at?

    Welcome to the club.

Your "sleeper berths suck" Mug & Decoder ring are in the mail

Remember that the first 6 months in LTL gig can suck when you are the FNG. Once you get some strap life is good.

I just see the LTL guys passed out over the steering wheel at the rest areas. After a while, I hope it will be enjoyable. I also noticed that LTL guys like to complain a lot, maybe thats just me.

Interesting that the OP has not come back. Story sounded a little fishy to me. Maybe it wasn't as good as he thought.

hmmm...I didnt really see any haters, mostly open discussion and some folks wishing good luck and congrats. Mostly people wanted to know the name of the company...seems reasonable...a little defensive aren't you?
