hello, I'm currently enrolled in school in syracuse, ny and was just turned down by TMC Trans. for employment. Right now I'm looking at three companies and am looking for info. the companies are: Anderson specialized trucking, Arrow Trucking, and PGT Trucking.

I hear PGT is a bottom feeder. The pay is percentage. Arrow pays decent and I've heard they are a ok company. Don't know much about ATS.

    Default Arrow

I worked for Arrow for 5 months. for a while the only complaint I had was the time setting in truck stops waiting for a load. A day here, two days there, then the time I spent 5 days over thanksgiving in Weatherford, Tx.
Wait, wait, wait, and it didn't get much better. Then I thought I'd get to go home after putting in for home time 3 weeks prior. WRONG!!! I spent as much as 6.5 weeks out before I thretened to Quit. If you don't like to tarp STAY AWAY. I sware they'd have you tarp a load of cedar post if they could get away with it. I think they raised tarp pay a little but when your'e tarping or untarping a load of hay in 100+ degree heat $50 aint enough. Then after being out 6 weeks again I found out my best freind took a turn for the worst and past away. Guess what, they said they couldn't get my home in time even though I had 3 days. that was the last straw. I Quit!!! There might be some that will dissagree but I'm telling you what hapened to me. I am a hard worker, and I gave it my all, but I think that was my down fall. the harder I worked the more they wanted, and kept me out for that reason. By the way I think it's $30 for tarping now.

thanks for the input, I will take it under advisement. yes the website does say it's $30 for tarping. At this time I'm leaning more towards ATS but still am not 100% sure. Who are you working for now? and are you still running F/B?

Default I'm not flat bedding anymore

I was in a bad motorcycle accedent and was away from trucking for a while. I have since went to dri-van with a local company which is'nt working out because it pays percentage and i'm hauling paper which does'nt pay much, plus his equip. is junck. I'm thinking about checking with Knight or schneider. Good luck.

OK. That's your first mistake. Understand these "placement" people at the schools get a kickback from the company they send you too. Often they limit your potential to a few companies. Start hitting the application websites like here, Bubbajunk.com and layover.com. One application will be sent to dozens of companies.

well our "placement" guy does not get any kickbacks what so ever..it is a service to use form our tuition. I have looked into it extensivly to make sure that he doesn't get any benifit out of sending us to a company...my tuition pays his wage not kickbacks.

OK new guy. You keep thinking that. You could do MUCH better than the choices that have been given to you. You want to take our advice or are you simply looking for validation?

OK look, I'm not trying to get anything started here...I did join here to get info so i don't get screwed over like i have heard a lot of noobs do. I want to drive flatbed. My original choice was TMC but seeing as they won't hire me I've done a bunch of research on Anderson (ats) and from what i have been able to find they seem like a decent company to work for but was hoping to find someone that works or has worked for them.

even tho i like ats i am still open to other suggestions on flatbed companies.

There's not much about ATS out on the boards. That is usually a good thing. The good companies rarely get talked about or bashed. The pay seems OK. It looks like they have alot of options as far as if you want to drive van, flatbed or heavy-haul. Alot of regional positions too. The only thing I noticed on their website is they are pushing the lease pretty hard. Make sure you don't do that.

    "I hear..."

    "I've heard..."

Those should be keys to what kind of "advice" you're getting here.

PGT has been very good to me.

Bennies are EXCELLENT and my paycheck has varied between $800 and $1500 (gross)

Can't speak for the other two as I've never worked for them...!

Well, I've heard and I hear that CR England SUCKS too. But I've never worked for them either. I don't need to stick my hand in a fire to know it's hot.

Let's see the great things PGT offers.

    1. Lease program. Oh boy!
    2. 5 day orientation and three weeks OTR for new drivers for a whopping $280 a week! Hell, CRE pays more than that.
    3. Per diem. Rip off!
    4. Forced dispatch.
    5. Drive crappy Internationals.
    6. Terrible percentage plan.
    Driver Pay Scale
Over-the-Road with Verifiable Flatbed Experience Less than 6 months experience 23.5%
Less than 1 year experience 25.0%
    1 – 3 years experience 25.5%
    3 – 5 years experience 26.0%
    5 – 7 years experience 26.5%
    7 – 10 years experience 27.0%
    10+ years 28.0%

You can make alot more money for TMC, Maverick or Melton working flatbed.
