    Default Hauling containers out of Oakland Port

    Does anyone know anything about hauling out of Port of Oakland as an owner/operator?

    Drayage in a big metro is absolute low margin hyper competitive hell.

    If I recall correctly one study had drivers actual net earnings at $8/hr

    You are better off working at McDonalds or Starbucks, you will make as much or more money for your time with less stress.

    I go by there every night and there are streams of junky old trucks hauling those containers. I've considered buying my own truck and doing it but I'm afraid the wages would be pretty bad if the trucks being used are any indication. The group of drivers is predominantly Mexican and Middle Eastern and with me being only English speaking I think I'd have some issues.

    I'm not saying driving an old truck makes you a low wage driver but the state of repair on the truck definitely speaks volumes about your operation.
