That depends. The Distributor I worked for was all Teamsters, so the Local determined salary & benefits. Hours varied, but were pretty regular 8:00 - 5:00 most days. Holidays and some Fridays ran later with extra stops.

If they train like they do here, you'll be a "helper" on a truck. You'll work your butt off. Hauling 1/2 barrels up/down stairs in bars & taverns. Retail accts. like Osco, KMart etc., getting 1000+ cases at a time that you unload.

It was probably the worst job I ever had, and I worked in the office. I had drivers robbed, beat up, my Coors DM was murdered by some kids who wanted to steal the Coors Van and my GM was murdered by a "helper" he fired. And I only worked there a year.

    Good Luck!

Teamsters here too. Pay is .38 per case. You can make damn good money that way if you want to work yourself to death. But with the union, you'll get the *****ty route until you get seniority

I hauled food for Sysco. Up here in NY it was teamsters. Money...Damn good... Benefits.. Awesome......Job......SUCKED

I did the yard for 3 months and then went on the road delivering food. Now I was one of the low men on the totem pole so I got the crap runs. After 3 weeks of being on my own, 1 Thurday morning I went to my first stop, spent 1 1/2 hours delivering 70 cases and then took truck back to their terminal with the remaining 1030 cases and said thanks for the opportunity but I am all set.

Up here in Albany, They had no clue how to load a truck, worked you like a dog. I had my first stop everyday either on the bottom of a pallet or back behind 1 or 2 others where I had to move everyhting to get to it. Now, I dont mind working hard but there is know way I was gonna do that for 20 years for a pension and then not be able to walk.

So about beer, kind of went on tangent there. I have a friend of mine who delivers beer and kegs and so on. He likes it. He works like a dog. You need to ask yourself if you want to work like a dog everyday and if your body can hold that momentum for xx amount of years. BTW the outfit he works for is not teamsters. If you are going to do it, you might want to get in with a teamster outfit so you have some kind of good pay and benes in case you do get hurt.

My 2 cents hope it helps
If you are not sure you should do it, then don't!

Be careful, beer drivers don't retire, they get hurt or they quit. I did it for 4 years. 1 comp claim and I was gone, now I'm stuck out with a surgically repaired back.

Just join AA now, save yourself the time. Seems like my Sales guys couldn't make a "sale" without having a drink or 2 with the barkeep, and anyone else that wanted to buy them one. Make 20 stops a day like that and then crawl out the van back at the warehouse and call your wife to come get you. Good times!

That actually doesn't sound too bad to me.
