    Default I am officially retired....

As of 07/12/2007@2:45PM (PST) I have retired from United Parcel Service after 30 years. It's been a real pleasure to be on this board and I hope to check in from time to time. It's going to be weird not going to work, but I guess that's something I will deal with. I hope to have a new gig delivering high end RV's from Eugene, Oregon to points in the Southwest United States shortly. Will just work part-time. Thanks to everyone for their opinions weather we agreed or not. I'll let you know how retirement is...(I'll probably croak or something).....

hmmm, retiring on Friday the Thirteenth I hope that doesn't signal impending doom. . .

Fred, its been a pleasure "knowing" you here on the forum! I'm happy you made it to retirement. Take care, stop in and say HI! now and then, and enjoy yourself....you've earned it!! 8)

    arty: arty: Congratulations feederfred!

It will seem very strange at first as I owned (or it owned me) a business for two and half years. I worked sometimes 18 hours. It was VERY VERY strange when I walked away from it after the lease was up. I kept waking up at those times and felt weird not doing the things I used to do.

Keep busy and you will be fine! I am certain the Mrs. can give you her honey do list :P And I hope you like your new gig!

 Check in from time to time! Hey you were suppose to keep an eye on us! You cannot leave this board we will all miss you to much!

Aw come on, Fred. You still got another 30 years in front of you. There's an article in this week's Transport Topics about an 84 year old UPS driver who still going strong. 62 years with the company. Wonder what kind of pension he's got?

BOL to ya' tho. Hope you stay active on the forums. Not too many of the real freight hands around anymore. Was talking to a 33-year UPS man at the Hugo Boss docks last week. He started with Preston and dovetailed into UPS back when Preston went under in the early 90's. He sure had some great stories to tell.

I'll be working for a good friend of mine who brokers deliveries for various RV dealers and manufacturers. Marathon's will be one of them I hope, but it will be a mix I guess. As far as the "dump truck" for the pension check...I wish. It's very fair, don't get me wrong and I am grateful for it, but I don't think I'll be taking many Alaskan cruises. As far as the signs, that was a good idea, but I think I'll change it to "Look what BROWN did TO Me"....LOL! Take care and thanks to all again..Pretty soon I'm just another old fart in an RV getting in your way.

Congratulations on getting to the financial point where you CAN retire....have a great retirement!!

I used to deliver Delta mini-motorhomes out of Elkhart IN when I was in college in the late 70's....a lot of fun but if anything is going to break down, it tends to happen on that first trip. I had everything happen from losing all the oil in one big spew to the entire wiring harness going up in smoke.

Congrats Fred. In Central States pension you can't work driving a truck when you retire unless you are over 65. Is Western States a little more open?
