Default Is Covenant Changing for the Better?

Or is it all smoke and mirrors? They have done a major adjustment to their ad campaigns, not only in number of ads (several different display ads in all of the job publications) but they are all geared toward being a driver friendly company. I have been contacted by and been approved for their Midwest Regional refrigerated division. First inclination is to run away fast...but if there are any current drivers for Covenant, I would like to get your input to help me make a decision.

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. I would keep looking.

On their website it shows for home time a 34 hr restart each week. That just seems like it would be a little hard to do. What if you have to do your restart away from home due to load scheduling? Does that mean that you dont get home that week?

Those are the kind of questions I'm trying to get answered. Fact is, I have found nothing positive anywhere on the web about Covenant, but, most of it is pretty dated and well before the two recent acquisitions of their refrigerated customers and Star transportation. I just happened to notice their new ad campaign and when I got the approval, I wanted to do my homework before I got sucked in.

I have not seen many positive posts either about them. When you posted it looked pretty interesting to see if they have changed at all, but looks like there is a pretty short supply of Covenant drivers on this board. I have not really seen all that many of their trucks around here locally either to talk to the drivers.

Their website is informative as well as the ads they have on there. But, you are right research is the key! Sorry I cant help out more, I think that I am asking the same questions that you are.

I don't know , but the wife and I talked to a husband and wife team with Covenant a few weeks ago as we were looking into them also, but the first words out of their mouths were " Don't even think about Covenant, we're looking for another company now, no miles with Covenant"

Well, if you are running teams for Covenant, or for anybody else, as long as you run properly, then you should not need to reset your hours.

As for Covenant as a company??

I'm with Gregg on his recommendation 100%!!
I have not heard too much positive about them.

    I doubt it.

Until the business and regulatory environment shifts the lousy bottom feeding OTR outfits will keep doing the same shennagans

You can only get a limited picture from boards like this on the net.

To get a truly good idea talk to a dozen plus drivers that are in the same boat (ie solo company driver van or O/O team reefer).

    I'd still be careful though.

How many different user names are you going to post under? Hmmm? Every time somebody posts something negative about Covenant you cut and paste the same reply. Gets kinda tiring.

Guy down the street ran for them and ran hard, he is no longer with them now. He was out 2-3 weeks sometimes longer and then all of a sudden he was home for weeks at a time. The weeks and weeks at home went on for about 2 months and then the truck was replaced with a truck he went out and bought. He now runs his own truck with Landstar. He was lucky to go out for a week in between 2 weeks at home.

Now you know why I never post on these boards. You try to tell people the truth and you get some moron with a stupid response like this. Sounds like the CB Radio everyone knows everything but they actually have no Idea what they are talking about.

OK, lets look at something.... You are on a "dedicated account". Yet your weekly pay for the most part is below average, and your best check is $800 higher than your lowest?? Seems your "dedicated" run is not.

Covenant has a lousy reputation because "they earned it". There are precious few "cheerleaders" for them anywhere. Why? Because their turnover rate is so high. For a company that is supposedly owned and run by "Christians".....and one who was quote in an industry publication as stating "God came to me and told me how to run this company"...... Uh, err, ahem....me thinks someone ate the wrong kind of mushrooms on their pizza.

Hey, if your happy there....great. But, if I got stuck on a "dedicated" run like you say you have.... frankly... I'd be pissed off. Insufficient funds for the time involved in this job.

They advertise as much as they do...because they have to. They have to chum the water as fast as they can....like other companies that haven't figured out how to do it right.
Forrest Gump was right....and some people literally strive to prove it.....everyday. Strive not to be one of "them".... And "lemmings" are a dime a dozen!

Remember: The "truth WILL set you free"! If it doesn't "set you free"....."it will trap you in the cesspool of your own design".

They lost my original "avatar"....oh well.

I guess the real explanation is or will be one of two things:

    1. The driver is assigned to that shipper, and only gets paid when they have freight to move, and is at the whim and will of the shipper, which does not have a fixed shipping/receiving schedule.

    2. That the "dedicated run" is not.

The last pay check amount was either a posted mistake, complete :dung: , includes vacation pay, or something else. In order to gross enough $$ to net $1,462.27 you would have to gross at least $1900.00 and even if he was getting paid 40 cpm....it would involve 4751 dispatched miles. Sorry, I don't buy it.

My guess is that he makes about $600 one week and $800 the next for the most part, and for some reason he got paid for 2 trips in one week when he made that $1400.

Did you ever hear of a safety bonus? Probably not. The $600 paycheck is because I took off for my birthday. You people really do have Tunnel Vision. I think its funny that if a person does well at a company that nobody likes you all get highly upset.
