Default Please Help! Team Looking for New Company

This is a serious request for some help looking for a new company (team).

    Okay, I'll try this again.

I posted awhile ago about us wanting to stay tanker and drive team. We are currently with JBK hauling helium. As far as that goes, the company is awesome. The pay is wonderful. They treat us good. BUT, we cannot have our dog and we miss her. We also are getting *very* bored running alot of the same routes over and over. It's become very much like a dedicated route. :-( B O R I N G

So, we thought we could go with a tanker company and be able to have our dog, but we see that ain't gonna happen.

So now we are thinking about going back to dry van or reefer van hauling, or perhaps learning this flatbed stuff if we can find a company to teach us. We have 3 yrs. We have a good record (no acc. no tickets). We run hard when we run. We take time off about every month or 6 wks.

The problem is, now we are making good money (.48 a mile plus extras and paid by the hub)....so......looking out there, it's kind of limited unless we want to take a pay cut which we do not.

We also don't want to have to drive 65 and we really do NOT want a freightliner or a volvo. We also want a smaller company. Smaller meaning not the red, green, blue, white (you know).....and preferably a company that only hires experienced drivers (no trainees).

We currently drive an International. Good truck. Perhaps a Peterbilt or a Kenworth next time? LOL

So I guess it's: NO freightliners/volvos. Let us have our pet. Good pay. Good miles. SMALL company. In our experience, the big guys suck. (personal opinion) No training companies.

Anyway, any suggestions from you guys out there? Open to any and all suggestions. We gotta make a change soon or I'll commit hari-kari. <lol just kidding>

We don't want much huh? LOL

    Seriously, any help is appreciated.

We have been looking at Van Eerden.....Looked at TSMT but don't want to do all that government stuff....

    Thanks!

    Try them ???
    Thanks for the link.

Wow...their pay is low seems like, but other stuff seems good. I think we're spoiled. We are getting 48 cpm right now hub miles, plus all the extra pay involved. I wonder if *anyone* else out there can beat it...hmmmmm

But I see they do take pets so thats a plus.

    Anyway, thanks.

And you want to give this all up because you can't take your dog with you, and your KINDA bored?

Please PM me with the qualification and the address of where your company is. I'll go work there, and you can go work....where-ever.

I don't know if a company exists that meets all your criteria.

You have a pretty good gig going.

I can understand no Freightshakers; but Volvo?

Perhaps you can find a O/O with a Paccar who will allow you to keep a pet and work % of the load.

Yeah that was one of the biggest reasons I got out of OTR. Well, that and the low pay, BS, lies, exorbitant truckstop prices, lack of parking, free labor, hometime, DOT, Northeast, unpaid waiting, no overtime, etc etc etc...the list goes on and on and on.

I missed my dog alot. Now that I'm local, I'm able to take her for a walk every day.

    Sorry

Me sorry too, but I still had to laugh

No, they're serious, and I understand about the pup. Mine rode with me for over 5 years, and I was used to him being with me.... Can't carry him now, company doesn't permit it. He's at home with his sister..... But since I came back to chemical tankers, I'm home alot more often, and my pay is better and all is well with the world.

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do and even compromise....

As attached as I am to my pup....I won't give up what I have now.

Have you ever thought of going O/O?? That way you can still work for that company and have your dog with you. It will be your truck, not theirs!
    You could even try bedbugging.

If they were to stay with JBK...even as O/O's, or with just about any other tanker company.....the fact that they own the truck would be meaningless.

Chemical plants do not permit pets inside the gates, sneaking one it will get you thrown out. We are subject to being closely inspected including the inside of the cab to make sure there are no critters or riders....

Food Grade....another beast of its own.....FDA rules about critters on food processing plant grounds....

They would need to go to a different sector..... maybe like Fed-Ex ground pulling doubles or something else.

    Unbelievable.

Well, it could be worse. You could be a solo driver, making less, have a wife/husband back home, have kids, a pliss poor company, and see a LOT of the same area week in and week out.

When someone with experience wants to quit because of a DOG it is deemed a neccessary evil. When a newbie wants to quit because of pay, hometime, and company tactics he is a greenhorn jobhopper.

Give P.A.M. a call and ask for Choctaw Express ,we are the team part and they might let you have the dog but the pay might be a little lower than wht you want.

One thing about it Sky...if they did go O/O with Jack B Kuwick, they could make decent enough money that they could leave the dog at home with a sitter....and take 4 days off every other week...or one week off..every third week, and still have plenty of MOOLAA !!

I know, I know. We should be grateful for what we have right? We know that we have a good gig right now.

But we *really* do miss the dog that much. And we *really* are bored to death. In fact we think periodically about just going back to *regular* jobs but then we look at each other and say..."naaaah". This trucking stuff is addictive. Kinda like chocolate. <very big grin>

Our present company is Jack B. Kelley. Even owner ops cannot have pets. We do go to chemical plants only so that's why. They don't check our truck inside ever but if we cheated we'd get fired for it. Not worth taking a chance like that.

Requirements for JBK is 2 years OTR and I don't know the solo pay but I'd bet it's good. We run out of Rock Springs, WY but there are terminals all over the place. Teams are out of WY or KS and some in FL but they haul nitrogen, LNG etc instead of just helium like we do.

When we got hired the starting pay was .42 cpm but since we told them we were making .46 with Insterstate and to leave they'd have to meet it - they did. Now we are up to .48 (pay raise). Everyone told us you couldn't dicker with a new company when trying to get hired, but we did and it worked. <grin>

Oh well, thanks for all the comments everyone. I really do appreciate it.

Les'see....Your working for Jack B Kuwick (yes-yes..I do know whom you work for), out of Rocket Springs{  ooooooh the parties I attended down on K street   }...and are bored. Are you bored because your working for Jack B..or because your seeing all the same places, all of the time..or because you miss your pouchie?

When I suggested the O/O deal earlier, I was serious. All of the O/O's I have chatted with out of the JBK terminal over in Laporte, have been satisfied with the $$$$ they are turning, with the regions they get to run into-out of, as well as the amount of home time they are getting.

Might be something you could talk with your terminal manager about.

I'm one of those Guy's whom thinks it is unfair to an animal, to carry it in a truck all the time...that space is hardly adequate for a single man..let alone a man..a woman..and an animal. I'm pro freedom and exercise when it comes to dogs...I think they deserve a big backyard...a comfortable doghouse....and Kibbles and Chunks.

Sir, you need to read things from a slightly different angle. I can't speak for the others, but personally I found the dog to be the lesser of the problem. I had my pup with me for over 5 years. He's a 3 and a half pound Toy Fox Terrier....small yes, fit the truck well, and was a great watchdog. Small enough to fit in a jacket pocket, but sounded like a Doberman when he sensed something wasn't right.

When CFI convinced me to be a Finisher, I had to leave him at home. And when I moved here to Superior Carriers, again he could not come with me, as its against company policy....and for good reason. There are chemicals that will kill a dog quickly that don't even bother humans.

I think that its normal to miss your pet, but my financial welfare and retirement accounts are far more important than having the dog with me.
Others share my sentiments as well. I am not however saying these people are wrong or right. I understand their situation, even if I disagree with their priorities. Its their life and their decision.

Now, where you are concerned.... Sir, you came to these forums asking for advice. You got it. You denied or disbelieved it. You rushed into the situation, and the cards fell as they did. Simply put... you tried to defy conventional wisdom. That seldom is successful. Then rather than go with the conventional wisdom when the opportunity again presented itself, you tried to disprove it.

I have to give you credit. You are a determined sort. When I owned my businesses, I would have paid you well to work for me. But I couldn't find you. If you can just find the right situation....you will probably do well. I will say that you probably won't really like training. I did it as a solo operation for a year. It will burn you out. Don't make the mistake of seeing it as a longterm arrangement.

I wish you luck and good fortune in all you do. You may now discard the "martyr's rags". 8)
