    Default New TMC guy here

Hey every one, Paul here, im starting out at the SC tmc training facility monday july 9th. I was working for a Toyota dealership and i did the checking over the cars when they were unloaded from the car haulers, started talking too the drivers and decided too get a cdl and start driving a car hauler. Little did i know that that company's like that require 2 years OTR experience, so there i was with a cdl and no where too go, so to speak. So here i am Just got my cdl last month and this looked like the best company around so im jumping on. Can any one tell me what too expect in the next few months. I know its going too be tuff at the start but i have a good attitude and im smart, or so i have been told , so im hoping for the best.

    Default TMC

    Good luck to you!

Having TMC on your resume is a definite advantage. It will be tough but stick it out and get whatever amount of experience you need, then move on and never look back.

In my opinion, one should never look at a company as a stepping stone. You should look at a company as a possible new company to stick with! Don't get that job hopper mentality. Thats just my 2 cents!

Yes I do know something you don't. I used to work there. So did flatbed fred. Take mine and his experience and you will figure it out.

I am only downing TMC as a place to stay at. Their training program is top notch.

Yes I do consider them as a stepping stone, as should any other driver with common sense.

Not trying to be rude but, that is a poor attitude! On the other hand, you are entitled to your opinion.

I agree on the poor attitude but after you are at TMC long enough you will have the same attitude.

Use Fred as the example. Who on here had a better attitude than him?
    Enough said.....

Paul, there is a huge thread on here about TMC, if you read it it may help you. You will find that there are a lot of different experiances. My hubby just started working for TMC. In fact he is on his way to Indiana to pick up his truck as I type this. All I can say is so far so good. He went through a week of oriantation and 2 weeks with a trainer. He said he thinks he will like it. You will find that there are a lot of drivers on here that like TMC, and also a lot that do not. You really wont know till you work for them yourself. I wish you good luck, and stay safe out there.

every driver and person is different , so you have to try to find a company that best meets your needs. this of course is the hardest part from what i see.
some drivers might have a bad record and can only work with certain companys, so for them that company is the best because it pays their bills.
some drivers home time is more important then money, so they too will have a different company that they like, etc...

I understand what your saying, for me i picked tme because i want a company that has some pride in there trucks and there work, tmc looks that way too me, they seam too care about ever aspect of there company down too even keeping there trucks washed weekly. If they care about little things like that they must have a good system too take care of other biger problems.

Fred never quit TMC because he didn't like it, he quit because he needed to be home with his new family. I would say you and Fred are complete opposites.

Yes, Fred is just plain in love and left because of that. He enjoyed OTR as well as the dedicated job.

No job is a panacea of perfection. If trucking is your thing and you enjoy flatbedding, TMC is the way to go. IMO it is a company that is good for the new person as well as a place to stay long term.

Be sure that you completely understand the lifestyle and the work before you decide. It isn't for everyone. If you are used to the 9-5, M-F thing and only function with someone constantly telling you what to do, seek another profession.

    Matt:

I would have to disagree with you. Fred and I were both alike when we started at TMC.

I also thought TMC was the best thing since sliced bread. But then I woke up.

I realized that shiney trucks don't pay your personal bills.

As for Fred he made the correct choice by picking his family and personal life over TMC. he will be better off for it. I wish him the best of luck.

Now I don't have to tarp anything, get dirty, falsify my log because I sat all day waiting for a load, and get a full 10 hour break everyday. And make about 200 bucks more per weeks than I ever made at TMC.
So why should I ever look back?

Then why do you keep "looking back" to tell everybody how horrible it was. If what you have is so sweet now, why carry a grudge......

Who told you you couldn't work for TMC because you live South of I-10? The is absolutly incorrect. You might have to go Long Haul depending on where you live. You say South of I-10, do you by chance live along the I-35 corridor. If you do, you can go Line Haul. Verify this with recruiting, but that is what the Hiring Area Map shows.

You knew about tarping before you applied. Common sense will tell you you will get dirty doing this type of work. Take a shower. They are available. As far as falsifying your log, I don't know what to say. There is no one on earth that can force you to do this other than yourself. Since you chose to do it, it is on you. One call to Safety would end all the pressure. Why do you continue to blame others?

Just don't want some unsuspecting shlub to make a big mistake because he can't see through the rose colored glasses.
