    ColdFrostyMug:

You say: "The purchased carriers (Knight, England, Covenant, etc) will mostly be done away..."

the way you phrased this is to say that Con-Way also "owns" Knight, England, Covenant

Please define your phreas "The pruchased carrirers"

From What I read, I don't think Con-Way's management would put up with Covenant's policy of having drivers signing statements forgoing their workerscomp benefits and the law suits this has/will create.

I 'll help you 1-800 988-9121, this is Brent's number, head of Driver Development , 1-800- 998-9100 ext. 41, this is payroll. I am sure someone at either of these numbers can give you the correct numbers for a new driver. Let us know how it works out for you.
Yes, you are correct on the starting pay for the first year. I was right on the pay after the first year. Happy now?

Are you willing to die to take them away from me?

They 'purchase' truckload services from other carriers. The phrasing would probably be more clear if it were 'contracted carriers.' In order to move most or all of that work to CFI trucks, they would have to add an awful lot of trucks to the fleet though. I don't see that happening any time soon, given the current business climate.
Reading this blog will make you smarter and/or more attractive.

(The preceding statement has not been evaluated by the FCC.)

Maybe I should have been more clear. The "purchased", "contracted", cheap-***** carriers...whatever you want to call them...won't be going away completely. They will continue to be used for unbalanced lanes and certain terminal-to-terminal linehaul.

But even before the merger, CFI was Conway's largest provider of contract services for long-haul LTL line-haul (3-5 day lanes). And it is here where the purchased/contracted carriers will be eliminated. Why? Not only because of the volume consolidation that I talked about before. But it also has to do with retaining earnings and keeping the TL, LTL, and Menlo collaboration in-house for better control. This buy-out was also a response to FedEx buying long-haul LTL carrier Watkins.

Speaking of which, it's becoming increasingly difficult for one-trick LTL carriers to compete against FedEx and UPS. That's because FedEx and UPS can bundle express/ground parcel shipments and regional/long-haul LTL under one roof.

So there you have it. You have just received a wealth of timeless wisdom from one of the most sought-after sages in the industry. Use it wisely...

You have mis'spoke, a Crete driver fresh out of school and training makes .33 cents for the first six months and then .34 cents for remainder of the first year.

I have to come to Karnajj's defense here. Crete does pay 38cpm(or so) after training to drivers that have have had limited experience (I think 8 months with another carrier, but less than a year)with other companies and have seen the light. These drivers are given in the area of 4 weeks additional training, some less, some more depending on how their training progresses.

The above statement is made from the "I'm fairly sure, but not absolutely positive" part of my memory. Please contact your friendly Crete recruiter for actual numbers. I'm to lazy at this particular moment to confirm actual figures. Any corrections would be accepted graciously.

    You are incorrect sir!

All you have to do is ask and your dispatcher will send you a p.o. for the difference. Being I hardly ever run less than 2,800 miles per week I hardly every had to ask, but when I did there was never a problem.

Usually the case was for maybe a 250 mile load and I asked to be paid for 500 miles to make up for the lost potential miles for the day.
