Default Can anyone tell me about Marten?

I have 3 yrs exper. but I've been off the road for the last yr to stay at home with my child. Now the last company I worked for "American Eagle" (which is a great company) lost the account they had in CT so they said they are trying to work something out but it doesn't look like they could get me home.

Marten has frieght in CT and they sound pretty good. Can anyone tell me how the miles are at the company and how they treat the drivers as far as listening, working with, and reimburshing(KLLM had a hard time doing that last one).
Also do they just pick up any frieght or do they have a few accounts?

I think, they are a reefer company.
Wildk9 drives for them. You may want to ask him about the company. He should be around in a while.

Also look for posts by Lucky13. He used to work for Marten as a trainer.
Better yet, I'll call him and let him know about this post. He can answer alot of your questions.

Thx guys. I think they must not have seen this topic yet.
I don't think they are reefer..or anyway not all reefer b/c I talked to a guy briefly who was pulling a dry box. He liked the company, that's what made me look into them.
I was wondering also if anyone knows...
How strict are they about rules or anal about what you do?
My last company never bothered me about anything. I just picked up the loads and delivered them if I went a little off course to see someone or do something personal, they never even asked me about it. I kinda felt like an owner op with them and it was nice. I don't expect as much freedom with the next company but I hate it when companies got to breathe down your neck all the time.

OK you're right I called them back and they are reefer, so they must have changed over since I talked to that guy, it was like 3 yrs ago so..
I don't know how much the company might have changed since then.

No I talked to the guy when it was still J Marten. I know the company it's blue bird. Or used to be.
Do you anything about them? What do you think of them if you do? Good miles? Do they treat the drivers fairly?

I talked to a few of their drivers when I worked for shaffer, shaffer seemed like the better company to me, with either one, it will be reefer.

Marten is all reefer. They do have some dry vans but that's only for some dedicated accounts, maybe a few dozen vans or so. Overall they have about 3800 reefer trailers and 2300 company tractors. I left them a year ago after working there for 2 years. The only reason I left them was to be home. Marten was good to me and I would go back to them if I wanted to go OTR again. WildK9 is on here and and currently works for Marten, maybe he'll be along soon too 8) 8)

    Thx ya'll.
Marten does sound like a good company. I ran reefer with KLLM so I know how to do that. I personally think dry van is much easier but reefer tends to be longer runs so..
I talked to Shaffer. The only problem there is they will only allow your kids and grand kids on the trk, no exceptions and I wanted to take my little cousins, Crete is part of them and has the same policy.
Marten doesn't like the fact that I've been off the road for a year so they're giving me a little bit of a run around but I think they will hire me.

I really miss my old company though. American Eagle was smaller. Everyone knew me and they made execeptions alot to rules. You know like real people. They look at what you want and can work stuff out with you. I'm gonna miss that.

I have spoke with Kim a few times. She seems like a nice lady. The pay appears good. Not too many people complain about them. I am thinking Celadon because I like the idea of a week off and a thousand bucks every 30000 miles.
