Anyone know the type of loads Hunt Transportation (flatbed) haul and the frieght lanes they mostly use?
A Hunt recruiter posted on here a little while back, he said that they hauled a lot of equipment for companies such as Bobcat and John Deer. On average about 1 out of 6 (17%) loads had to be tarped. I have trying to find out what they pay. It says on the company profile .36 w/ one year, but that souds a little low when van (crete) gets .41 and reefer (schaffer) gets .42. Should be more like .43 or .44 to me for flatbed. but pay may have gone up and just has not ben updated on here.
Yep, all three of them. I have an app in and is being processed with Maverick, I've called every friday for last 4 weeks. They tell me it is still in work. Passmore stated "I do not meet their minimum requirements." TMC will not "rehire" me. I was hired on with them in the later part of '05, but was unable to complete my training. I recently re-submitted an app, Gus told me they dont want re-hire me at this time. I believe they are mad at me. Hunt Transportation has blessed me with an opportunity that I will carryout.Originally Posted by Jackrabbit379
Hunt is a great place--The recruiter Chris is honest and will help you out with anything you need. It is a very laid back orientation and they haul a lot of John Deere and also irrigation systems and street light poles from Valmont industries. Good luck and let me know if you need and other information.

I have talked to Chris several times in recent weeks, he seems to be genuine, answering all my q's to my satisfaction. So much so that I have a scheduled orientation date of June 18 in Omaha. He did say they do haul John Deere equipment and irrigation systems. I will receive $500.00 a week while training, .34 cpm solo and .36 cpm after 1 year. They operate 400 tractors with 800 trailers. My hope is that that will mean I can stay busy and run hard.Originally Posted by neverbeenlate
Do you drive for them?
Why the hell would they only pay .36 cpm with one year exp. while Crete pays .41 cpm driving a freakin dry van ? No wonder why they only have 400 tractors .Originally Posted by Texas Hammer

Smooth, That is a good question. At my best I could only speculate.
"Why the hell would they only pay .36 cpm with one year exp. while Crete pays .41 cpm driving a freakin dry van ? No wonder why they only have 400 tractors ."
We start drivers at .36 per mile with one year .37 per mile with 2 years.
The thing that people dont see is that we dont just pay the base pay of .36 or .37 cents per mile.
Our drivers do alot of over size loads which pay .06 per mile more.
If you run 10,000 miles in a month you will be paid .02 cents per mile for all miles driven in that month, for a mileage bonus. Our drivers average 2800 to 3100 miles per week so that is very obtainable.
If you run 27,000 miles in a quarter (every 90 days) with no safety violations you will receive .01 cents per mile for all miles driven in that quarter.
If you haul any LTL add on freight you will receive 20% of the gross revenue of that load on top of your mileage pay.
It's easy to see just .36 or .37 cents per mile but you will NEVER make just your base pay at Hunt.

Hmmmm..according to the last Hunt driver I talked with...Hunt pulls mostly stepdecks, which is a biggie when it comes to hauling equipment. Step's allow for picking up that odd LTL shipemt, which at times can pay revenue that equals the main load revenue.
Back then I didn't like the idea of driving a Cornbinder....now I own one !!!

We use flatbeds, and Stepdecks mostly. We do have alot of RGN's (Removeable goose necks) in our fleet as well.
Top customers are John Deere, New Holland/Case, Valmont Industries, and Genie. We also do some loads for CAT as well.
We tarp 17% of our loads through out the year on average. If you are running in our main freight lanes you will haul mostly machinery. If you go to an odd ball area for us, thats where the tarping usually comes into play. We have some guys that have went 3 weeks without tarping at all, and some guys that have tarped a week straight. It just depends on where you are running at the time.
Main freighlanes are Midwest, alot of Texas, and East Coast (Pensylvania, down to Georgia) not much if at all New York, we also run to Washington, and California quite a bit. These are are main lanes. You could see a little of anything though.
I hope this answers some questions that were mentioned earlier. If not give me a call or PM me.

The difference in pay has several reasons.
Main reason. The person that owns Crete Carrier/Shaffer Trucking also owns Hunt Transportation. Which makes it a division of Crete Carrier. They do have their own board and operate accordingly. Hunt drivers use the Crete Carrier/Shaffer terminals just like a Crete/Shaffer driver can use the Hunt facility to get work done, place to park, paperwork, showers, etc.
The amount that is paid to the drivers is based on the cost of the freight. Also, with the accessorial charges: tarp pay, LTL pay, overdimensional pay, the pay can be upwards of .03 to .04 cpm.
Chris has a positive influence on recruiting drivers. He has the honesty, integrity and reality of working for a company that has a strong past and the stability of a Crete Carrier ownership.
Does Hunt offer CDL training, like Crete? :?:
Crete does not offer CDL training. They will take you with a CDL and no experience and place you with a trainer for 8 weeks, but obtaining the CDL is completely up to you. In addition they do not recognize any school that is not PTDI certified.Originally Posted by cpl14

Are you willing to die to take them away from me?
Thanks for the info
All three carriers require that you attend a PTDI certified school or Crete approved school. All pay $500 a week during training. Hunt has you go through a week of securement training as well.
After you attend a two day orientation where we pay for your motel, buy you breakfast and lunch both days you are there. You are paid $140 at the end of training and then start on the fleet at .34 cpm for the remained of the year.
