Swift used to spec trucks with direct 10 speeds and 3.36 rear ends. With that gearing 55-60 was about as fast as you could go.
You can take the driver out of the truck but you cant take the truck out of the driver.
When I worked for Stevens, it was 64 mph until you were a "senior driver" (4 yrs) or managed to get ahold of a former senior driver's truck that wasn't turned down. Then you got to go 68. The last truck I had, a T2000, was a former "senior driver" truck and did 68. I managed to make the minimum 6.2 mpg fleet average every time so my driving habits were never questioned. Back then they were just starting the owner operator division.Originally Posted by countryhorseman
Back then Stevens spec'ed their T2000's with 435hp N14's, direct 10 speeds and 2.85 rear ends. In 98 they were in the process of converting the fleet from T600's to T2000's. If memory serves, they are now 435-500hp Cats, overdrive 10 speeds and 3.55 rear ends for both the T2000's and Peterbilt T2 clones.
My first truck at stevens was an old dog midroof single bunk T600 with a 400hp N14, 9 speed overdrive and 3.90 rear end.

Arrow has what they call 65 + 5, kind of like what he said about USX. The better the fuel mileage, the faster you can go supposedly, but my truck always seems to go 67-68, no matter how good or bad my fuel economy is. After like two years, or if you become a trainer, then they set it up to 70. I have never understood why they let trainees go faster than the guys on their own, just because there is someone riding w/ them.
swift is 65 for company driversOriginally Posted by lucky13
68 is what O/O are suposed to be at but I know many that don't have thier truck turned down
Some of the owner operators who deliver to the Wal-Mart I work at worked for Merritt before the takeover by Swift and they run faster than 68 mph.Originally Posted by geeshock
One O/O told me about the day of the takeover, a dispatcher at the DC he worked out of sent out a qualcomm message letting the fleet know that they now officially worked for Swift transportation.

i had a long tall pete that could pick em up and put em down, but when you are o/o and your averaging 4.5 mpg you tend to chill out. large cars are like boats, they are more fun when someone else owns them!
That is the same way I got stuck working for The crooks from Phoenix (swift) they bought out the company I worked for Direct Transit in 1997 like I said truck ran 56 mph only worked for them for two months couldnt take the slow truck anymore :rock:Originally Posted by PackRatTDI
