I am going back into trucking after a 4 and 1/2 year stint as a salesman, no wrecks, no tickets, 700k miles pulling doubles. I have 2 young children so i would like to have weekends at least. Any suggestions? I was thinking flatbed maybe.

you may very well have to go out with a trainer again, or get a refresher course on your dime. they (most companies) prefer recent OTR within the last 3 months or so.
Just getting started
well so far i have rec'd the following offers:
anderson flatbed - trainer for 1 -3 weeks
tmc - trainer for 4 weeks
maverick - trainer 1 - 4 weeks
a.passmore - trainer 4 weeks
averitt - trainer 1 - 4 weeks
all of these have weekend home options, i have also got apps in at every ltl in dfw area. i will make a call on friday, any suggestions on these co.s would be greatly appreciated. tia
I didnt know that Passmore had trainers. :| They used to only hire experienced guys. Well, anyhoooo, Passmore is a good company. If you live in the south central,(Tx,Ok,NM, etc) you will get home on a weekly basis. They run those big ole Petertrucks. Maverick would also be good to go with, especially if you live in the south.. Tmc is also good, for what I hear. There is a thread on Tmc, with good info.
i do have LOTS of experience, just not recent.
i think if you have 2 yrs, then they will train for flatbed.
Offers so far:
1) Yellow team driver casual-----.54 per mile and 22.00 per hour waiting, dont really want to run teams but damn!
2)Averitt truck load
3)TMC
4)Maverick
Any questions about Yellow go to truckingboards.com and ask over there . The .54 cpm is probably after 2 years but I don't known it may vary with teams .Originally Posted by slowtyperdave
