Unless I am mistaken or things have changed, Heartland applies past trucking experience to your pay - meaning if you go there with 7 years previous experience, they will start you at their 7 year pay level.

Now getting the miles at that pay level may be another story.

I don't reply to any Heartland posts. There is simply no reason. Drivers will make their decisions regardless of what I say and quite frankly, there's not enough hours in the day for me to get baited into long drawn-out arguments that go absolutely nowhere. As long as posters follow the rules of the board, comments, both positive and negative, are fine and dandy.

That said, I know Highwayman. I like Highwayman. We happen to disagree on a few things Heartland. And you know something? That's OK. There are a few people on this board that could learn something about diverse opinions being an OK thing.

    Carry on.
Your position is understandable, however I would hope that if I make any gross mischaracterizations about Heartland that you would set the record straight (either publically or through PM). I didn't like the way they did things, and I wouldn't recommend most people to drive for them, but I don't want to be known for lying about them either.

Maybe I should qualify my opinions about Heartland with "YMMV".

It's really no use to go against your posts FROSTY, you seem to live in a world where your word is golden, and if anyone doesn't agree, then they're doing everything wrong. I don't make a ton of money, i get paid decent for the job i do, i'm home every night, and off on weekends, probably just like you, look we have something in common, but what gets me is your constant negativity towards OTR as a whole, let it go, different strokes for different folks, lets not condemn everyone for driving OTR, or god forbid posting what they have to say about it.

Why is that? I dont have any problem doing it. You have to run smart, effecient, and dont screw around in truck stops. It isnt that hard to do IMO.

Of course, the dispatch has to be decent. Seriously, I run dedicated and do 3-3.5K a week in a 64 mph truck and make 10-20 stops a week also. I am home at least 4-5 nights a week too.

Dude, either your vocabulary skills or your typing skills or both really really suck. I read your post 3 times and I'm still not sure what it is you wanted to say.

I have been contacted by a few Heartland drivers lately. You can get a better driving job at CFI.

Karnajj - He is using text message typing, and not typing out regular sentences. I guess he forgot not everyone reads text language, and that he does not have to pay per letter to send a message. It is hard to read if you are not use to it. I'm not use to it, but could get the jist of what he said after reading it four times over.

daverut - Cool it. NO offense. The first message was hard to read, because you slipped into text messaging symbols and tricks to reduce the number of letters you would normally have to type. Remember many on the bords don't use the text language, because we don't have to worry about being charged per letter. It is much easier to type out complete words and sentences.

Just make an effort not to use text language, and no one will tell you they didn't understand what you just wrote.

edited to add: Thanks everyone for your comments. I'll pass this knowledge over to my husband who was thinking of Heartland. He hates driving at night, so I know now that this would definitly not be a good company for him.

This is something I can never figure out with some people, and please explain. Yeah It's nice to have a comfy truck with all the goodies in it, but in the end as long as the tuck is safe to drive, and gets the job done, it is making you money.

there is some truth to the "comfy" truck theory

i had to run all week with a truely stripped down ryder rental truck while mine was in the shop...

the suspension and stearing sucked and the bed was so bad it only compounded problems by the end of the week i was so beat down i was glad to get my well maintained truck back from the shop....the seats even sucked i felt every bump and had to tiger balm my back and shoulders to sleep for that week

if i thought that pos was going to be my permanant truck or any company ran a similarly specked out truck i would have quit

while i dont require a tricked out truck comfort leads to productivity and adds to my bottom line in the end

Have you thought about "tanker work"? Better pay, less worry about miles, Very little late night driving....
Forrest Gump was right....and some people literally strive to prove it.....everyday. Strive not to be one of "them".... And "lemmings" are a dime a dozen!
