    Default KNIGHT TRANSPORTATION - Chicago

Wondering if anyone here drives out of that terminal. What lanes do you run? Is it possible to do a 10-4 work schedule? How's the equipment? Living in the Milwaukee area, would I be able to bring the truck home? Thanks

The 10 and 4 schedule is something you would need to work out with your FM.
As far as taking your truck home, that is a yes.

The Chicago yard is a big transfer point for loads and also a lot of loads delivering within a couple hundred mile radius of the windy get dropped there. Do not be suprised if you spend a day or two running "local" loads during each tour.

I ran out of KC and Chicago was just getting going when I was there. That is about all I can tell you.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

Out of curiosity, how much do they pay for such work?

I'd be curious to hear about that also. What lanes do you run otherwise? With so many regionals, I'm assuming running lanes are quite small?? How are the trucks? This and any other pertinent info would be most appreciated

depending on what you work out with your dispatcher,
Your travel lane can be just about whatever you want to run.
I,am out of the K.C. terminal, I run 10 out 3 in and most of what I run is east of denver, if you are willing to run, they work pretty good with keeping you runing where you want.
local work pay is 12.00 per hour, however they pay a flat rate most of the time, say 50.00 to go get a load for them, that kind of thing.
In Chicago you will do alot of local work, everyone runs at least one when they get there.
If Derick is still the terminal manager there, He is a good guy talk to him.
He was my first dispatcher when he was in KC.

Should have read the last post first sorry.
As far as the trucks go, Mine is a 06 volvo never had a problem with it! have only got one trailer in the last 2 years that I could not get the slider to release on the first pull.
really the equipment is some of the best I have seen for a company truck, Been with warner, Reohl, us express, and barr nunn and this is by far the best
I hear alot of bad about knight on here, but I have been there 3 years and can't say I have much to bitch about.
I believe it really matters who your dispatcher is, and if you are willing to "work" I take every load, sometimes I may not want to, but that is a part of this job, Freight goes where you don't want to somtimes!
I avg about 500miles per run and get 2800 to 3200 a week like clockwork.
that is what I like to do.
they leave me alone for the most part and let me do my job.
Sorry to ramble on, but it really seems that most of the bitching on here is self made.

    You cross over.

Each region is responsible for finding freight and making sure that freight gets picked up and delivered. You as a driver will rarely if ever deal with the dispatchers or load planners from another region. That is your dispatchers job.

At Knight, your running area can be just about anything you want it to be.
