Well I finished all my testing and am back home for a few days. Tuesday I go back to Laurinburg and find out how and when they'll get me to Gary IN to pick up my truck.

Did you ask your recruiter about the opportunity fleet? They do alot of overdimensional stuff but mostly for guys in the midwest. Im just repeatin hearsay so ask your recruiter to be sure. Nice Avatar by the way.

Well all, I finally was assigned a truck yesterday. 55981. I was suppose to go to Gary IN to pick up a truck, but at the last moment a truck came avalible in Richburg SC, a mear 50 miles from my house. I picked up my truck and bobtailed over to Laurinburg NC for a few minor repairs and securement equipment. It was suppose to be ready today, but it looks like tomorrow morning sometime, then maybe I'll get a load I'm sure.

BigBear, it was an extreme pleasure to meet you today. Be safe and I look forward to talking to you again!

Congratulations big bear on heading out with your trainer and Congratulations tinbender on getting issued your truck!!! Sounds like yalls careers with Maverick are moving right along!

Ron is doing great and Loving his local job ~ while working with his first local job, he was offered a job with a construction company paying him more money with pretty much the same great hours not to mention a good bit of over time pay.. so he jumped on it.

He really enjoys what he is doing, he is driving both tandem dump trucks as well as semi's with dump beds on the back.

    Default I must say...

 i have to admit that reading most of this thread how mamny new drivers are coming to mav sp and are geting along pretty well. I have been hauling glass before maverick took over the glass division from schneider. I am still sticking around cause i have a good things going. I stay on the road for about three weeks at a time and that is what works for me. I get home when i need to. the office people out of laurinburg are among the best i have worked with. Even people that no longer work there will still remember their old STL and give them a good response. I will see you around the yard. I look forward to see how the new generation of glass haulers will be. We lost so many great driver late last year and i maybe soon. 8)

Here's what I've been up to so far. Took a load of glass up to PA and got unloaded last night. This morning I had a 3 hour run over to Mt. Holly Springs PA and swapped trailers. I was pulling a 48 ft. flatbed and my next load required a 53 ft. flatbed. Then made a 3 1/2 hour run over to Fair Lawn NJ where I'm at now. Tomorrow they'll load on some tanks, and I'll haul them down to Chesterfield VA for a Friday unload.

Have fun tinbender, I-95 has been a total joke the past 2 days between Fredericksburg and Richmond. Had a truck run into 3 parked trucks yesterday morning that had 95 South closed for almost 6 hours due to the resulting fire. Had a real bad one tonight in the heart of Richmond that had North and South completely closed for at least an hour. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.....

Just curious, how much money did you guys spend during school and training? I just sent in my application, but without enough cash, I may as well wait.

    Thanks,

    Tom

I actually lucked up and got laid off from my former job before i had the chance to resign, so the state picked up the tab (2500.00) for me to go to CDL training, which was in my home town. I think i spent roughly 100 dollars during those 3 weeks, 53 of it being for my license. Instead of riding the bus from Alabama to NC, i chose to drive instead, which i had to pay for my expenses up front but will be reimbursed a certain amount. As far as spending money while i am here, probably close to 150 dollars, lunch was on Maverick for the first 4 days, dinner was always on me, so that just depends on how much you eat. Laurinburg has all of the usual fast food joints, and if you get lucky you could get a room here with a microwave and fridge. Hope this helps.
