CFI. It doesnt get much better.
well it depends on what exp u have... crete u need a year, unless you do their inexperienced route.. heard they are great though. Knight you need 4 months... im with them and they are quite good. Swift, usexpress etc... are decent starting companies but they all suck... especially CRE>.. stay away from those fluckers.
U.S. Xpress for me, signing on there myself within the next year. Crete you need one year like the other driver said. U.S. Xpress because I've talked to many of their drivers and they all seem happy with them. Good equipment, decent home time, and they been honest with me through the recuirting process so far. You might want to look up danj_otr on here. He will be starting orientation with them on Feb. 5 and last time I spoke with him he was going to start a blog about his experiences with them. Best of luck.

From what i've read and heard i would probably go with in order:
1)crete
2)USExpress
3) CFI
4)schneider
5)knight
6)swift
The main thing in the game of trucking is to be able to get consistent steady loads and from what i hear, crete has the loads.
Crete hires out of school according to their website. But CFI is much better IMHO.

I might consider Crete....if I was ever to pull a box again, but truthfully... CFI would have to be our of business first. I've talked to some Crete drivers and some of the changes being made since Mr. Acklie (sp?) is retiring aren't necessarily "good". US Xpress is going to hurt you.... while maybe they aren't too bad of a company with good equipment and all....their payscale was dreamed up by a thief. Simply put: the longer the run, the lower the pay per mile. Personally, I cannot fathom how anyone can think that a driver's skill value declines after x miles. Plus, as I recall, they are still paying HHG short miles. That "sucks" too. Nothing in the world like getting shafted twice at one time.
You live in CFI's hiring area, so it would behoove you to do some research on them. You can also go over to http://www.cfidrivers.com and join in the discussion or just read the posts. The company does not own or even endorse the site. Its owned by "Croc" of Angel & Croc fame. He is an owner operator with CFI who has been there since 1995. By the way, CFI pays "Practical Miles", as does Crete and a few others. That can make a 15% difference in your pay to the better.
Forrest Gump was right....and some people literally strive to prove it.....everyday. Strive not to be one of "them".... And "lemmings" are a dime a dozen!
Remember: The "truth WILL set you free"! If it doesn't "set you free"....."it will trap you in the cesspool of your own design".
They lost my original "avatar"....oh well.

U.S. Xpress????? if you like an ATA company and being told how to log in there world its ok i guess..... personally I don't like being told to log a certain amount of time for doing something. I log it as I do it no ifs ands or buts. U.s and their ATA ways can kiss my.....
Come on now.....we can't corrupt the noobs right off the bat. Atleast give them a year of experience before teaching them how to log in the real world.Originally Posted by tbogle05
BTW.....I can say that the wife and I ran team for USX a couple of years ago and we made great money but rarely got home. Our regular fm was great but night dispatch is a clueless group of college kids that have no idea what a big truck looks like. They don't have to since the main office is miles from the nearest terminal. well it's not even in the same state.

Hi, first time poster here, though I've been logging a lot of hours on this site since I found it last week, educating myself on the industry. What an incredible resource! I'm a 43 year old single guy, no kids, considering a career change in trucking. I'm really interested in going OTR. My Dad yanked a tanker up and down I-5 for over a decade and a half, and really enjoyed it, cuz it allowed him to sleep in his own bed every night. As my handle suggests, I'm just the opposite. I would love to get on with a company that would allow me to see as much of the 48 states as possible.
I've been reading lots of positive things about CFI and Crete, but I live in Oregon, and from what I've seen on their websites, they don't seem to hire this far west. Is that correct? If so, what would be a good company to start with? (I don't have my CDL yet, so I'm also interested in which companies might have good training programs.)
I've read lots of good things about Gordon, but their website seems to indicate that solo drivers are limited to a particular region, and aren't able to go all the way across the country.
Too much yapping on my part for a first post, I know!![]()
In summary, I guess I'm wondering if there is a good paying, reputable company that will hire a new driver who is based in Oregon, and allow me to go all the way across the country?
Thanks!

I've talked to several Gordon solo drivers who go all over the US.
I think they call it US anywhere fleet. All have been reffer drivers so not sure if Dry Van has that option. Gordon is on my list of companies I want to work for. Not #1 but close.
Hey glasman2, that's good news. Thanks!
By the way, which company or companies do you have ranked above Gordon on your list?
Well.....
They pay less CMP but get really good miles and make up for it in equipment, and the way they treat the employees. Those are the 2 things on the top of my list for companies to work for. Clean teriminals help this along to.
That being said Interstate Distribution Co.
Wow, you TMC guys are slacking, it took you all 1 day 3 hrs and 10 minutes to post something about TMC after someone said something Maverick.Originally Posted by terrylamar
