Default List honest companies paying practical miles

HHG miles cheats drivers, period. Companies need to estimate miles with software but there is plenty of software available providing accurate estimates of trip lengths. On this thread, I'd like to give it up for the companies honest enough to pay Practical Miles.

I'll start, two off the top of my head:

    - Perkins Specialized Transportation (O/O outfit)

    - CFI

    Who are the others?

I believe all of the Acklie Companies do (Crete Shaffer and Hunt). Millis pays both HHG and Practical. Of course the practical is lke 3 cents/mile less. Barr Nunn also does. Gordon pays by "routed miles". Anybody else know of more?

If they paid hub miles, then everybody would get lost or take a lot of side trips. If they paid flat rate, then everyone would drive too slow. Imagine getting pulled over for 'driving too slow' though... Everything nowadays, is a numbers game. Gotta have the numbers, and they gotta be in a book someplace as reference.

I didn't know all those companies paid practical miles, coalregion. That's a good start. Credit where credit is due. Yeah so, what others?

Companies can't pay you to swing by the girlfriend's house, Mackman. Can't pay you when you've been out for three weeks and you're daydreaming and you take the exit going East when you should have gone West and you only realize it 30 minutes later. Also, for accounting purposes, it's efficient to estimate the miles, the accounting costs alone would make it way too expensive to pay hub miles much of the time. The thing is, the companies can pay you a reasonable estimate (practical miles) or they can cheat you 7-10% (shortest miles, HHG miles). HHG miles needs to go the way of child sweatshop labor.

Ok, just a summary list so far:

    Perkins Specialized Transportation
    CFI
    Crete
    Schaffer
    Hunt
    Millis (sometimes?)
    Barr Nunn
    Gordon (routed miles?)
    Trans Am
    Maverick (?)

Great start, maybe we can get a really good list. Even if it were just a matter of principle, I wouldn't look at a company that doesn't pay practical miles unless there were some other overriding factors (like a terminal across the street from your house...) I couldn't turn down.

The Superior Bulk Logistics companies: Superior Carriers (Chemical Tanker) and Carry Transit (Food Grade) pay practical miles.

Additionally, most all chemical tanker companies pay you do to many other things besides driving. Things like "detention pay" are automatic and hourly, loading and unloading are paid a flat rate and if it takes more than two hours it goes to hourly. Cyanide posted all of this information in his tanker information thread.

Carry pays extra things also, but their pay scale is slightly different from Superiors.

Unless Maverick change in the past few months, you can scratch them off the list. They paid HHG when I was with them, however there were rumors swirling about them switching to Practical when I left there so it is possible.

I agree if we all went by hub the companies would be getting screwed a heckuva lot more than what the drivers are on HHG. Personally, I never had a problem making money and getting paid on HHG.

I guess if you know you'll always be slighted 7-10% you can quickly factor that in and just count on whatever is left. Often, whatever is left is still a fine wage. If you make 38 cpm you just have to keep it in your head that you really only make 34-35 cpm. But why the dishonesty?

I drive for Landstar and sometimes I get very accurate miles and other times it can be Rand McNally Household movers guides. Recently, I booked a couple of longer loads right on the edge of what I thought was too cheap. When freight is down and/or you are in a bad freight area, you've got to dig a little to find freight. I took these borderline loads only to find out later that I'd be giving them 150 and 180 miles of diesel fuel, tires...and time and effort for free for the privilege of hauling their freight. Had they been high paying loads, I'd have considered myself still to the good and have gone along happily. But, since they lied to me about the miles, that is, they used HHM guide miles, I was hauling freight I'd have turned down had they told me the rate per mile based on what everyone knows I really had to run.

Updated list of noble companies paying practical miles:

    Perkins Specialized Transportation
    CFI
    Crete
    Schaffer
    Hunt
    Barr Nunn
    Gordon (routed miles?)
    Trans Am
    Roehl
    Watsontown
    Superior Carriers
    Carrier Transit
    Interstate (not sure ?)

    Most chemical tanker companies
Most LTL companies that pay by the mile

Millis comes off the list. We'll stay with companies that always pay practical miles.

Skywalker already listed our company and our sister company (Superior Carriers, Carry Transit), but he forgot about my previous employer, Jim Aartman...

    *bump*

Are we done yet? Is it 'cause we're bored or is it because we've already got all the major carriers who pay practical miles? I don't know about all of you but what kind of miles a company pays speaks a whole lot to me before trying to determine everything else that makes it a good or a bad company.

    Latest, greatest summary list:

    Perkins Specialized Transportation
    CFI
    Crete
    Schaffer
    Hunt
    Barr Nunn
    Gordon (routed miles?)
    Trans Am
    Roehl
    Watsontown
    Superior Carriers
    Carrier Transit
    Interstate (not sure ?)
    Davis Transport
    Jim Aartman

    Most chemical tanker companies
Most LTL companies that pay by the mile
