They have a terminal in my hometown. My spot at Maverick is about a month or two away. I'd like to make some money in the mean time. Any pros or cons about this company?

If you are not a newbie and have experience they are a good company! I am not sure how the miles are. I heard they got very bad for a few drivers over there. My husband worked with them for about three weeks. We have a thread of his whole ordeal over there. Overtheroad also worked there but there were some issues and miles where one of them. Cranky worked there also for them. The only person I know that is still with them is Iceman and he did have some issues with them in the beginning and then miles where also an issue until he got in the lease program.Originally Posted by Quadzy

I went to orientation in October 2006 in Layton, UT. Their operation seems a little shakey, lots of new staff in every department. They issue their older trucks to new hires no matter how much experience. Their 2007 PB 387 are OO spec and are very nice if you are lucky enough to get one. While waiting for my 1st load, their HQ in Brooks decided not to hire me and dropped me cold, even getting a bus ticket home was tough. Seems like left hand doesn't know what left is doing (plus lots of new staff) so be sure to get some good connections first and everything in writing.
Be Happy!
Seems like this time of year there's lots of people complaining about miles. In the past, I've talked to MTC driver's. They all had good things to say about the Co. Lately I've seen more, and more negative comments about them. Could this be a result of the lack of miles? I don't know. I do know that I personally would not consider hiring on to a company till after the freight picks up. My $.02 worth
I think there just goin through some growing pains, Hiring alot of drivers an ordering trucks but not building up the freight base. Also the whole Dry or 11 western division is out of one terminal thats in Brooks, The other 3 terminals are reefer.
hmmmm yeah I drove for may for 2 months.... where do i start.. well talking to my dispatcher was like talking to my ex wife. she would get frustrated and hang up etc.... bottom line is I left to go to knight... and I couldnt be happier.... i am on the express fleet where i go out mon-fri... my dispatcher is great. and im averaging take home $650 a week... for me thats great.. May couldn't touch that.... and im pretty much constantly rolling... great Frigging dispatcher... love him...
i checked them out once at the terminal in phoenix and was not impressed
I quit my job in July and was looking for the "perfect job". I decided that my old job was the best one that I could find. However, everyone told me that if I didn't get out of a Training Company that I wouldn't be hired by other Trucking Companies.
I have to tell you that I was hired by 10 different companies. One of those 10 was May Trucking. I almost went there; however, when they told me that I would have to chain in the west and do reefer if I go outside the 11 Western. I thought, "oh hell no!"
I don't want to be told that I would have to chain. There's no way that I want to do reefer either. I think it's more responsibility for the same pay so I didn't want to do that either.
I know someone that works for May and is very happy. Those are the two reasons I didn't go. Crete is also good. They give you a choice of 3 loads when you take something. That doesn't happen in many other companies from what I hear. They also pay 5 cents per mile more when you go 48 states instead of 11 Western.
Hey Crankyazz,
Hi,buddy! Iused to drive for Knight. Which terminal are you out of with Knight? And who is your dispatcher? I was out of SLC and Corey was my dispatcher and my hero! Am currently with DATS trucking now, learning line-haul and being home every night. Have a safe trip, my friend.
Are you friggin serious? You didn't even get $650 a week at May?
That's pretty damn scary. I thought I was getting the shaft where I'm at.
I'm only bringing in $600.00 a week at my current local gig. I know this Is lame.
Woops!
lol too funny .. corey is my dispatcher and i ***n love him... omg he is a great dispatcher.. I dont have one negative thing to say about knight... i get paid after every load. he hardly makes me sit at all.. and gets me all the miles I need and im still home every weekend... LOVE him.. he is great.
This is the first thread I've seen that has anything negative to say about May.I'm scheduled to go to orientation on the 27th of Dec. I was told that 2500 / week was the average from their recruiter. Is this smoke? Should I reconsider?

Thanks dipstick... I'm going refer so that makes me feel much mo betta.![]()
good luck with May and make sure you keep us informed on how your doing over there
I was suppose to leave with a trainer on Dec. 27. Let me let you know. You won't be impressed with the facilities. The recruiter Loren is honest and a joy to converse with but, I think I found a better company.
May will tell you they want you out a min. of three weeks but when you get to orientation which will be in Pensacola if you're from Tampa; Dave will tell you think more of 5wks at a time.
You will run chain and you will be pushed. They clearly tell you they don't want you to run illegal but they let a guy go while I was in orientation last week because he was consistantly out of nours. I think weather could be blamed on a lot of his sitting hell I tested in his truck and he only had books to read.
May's a decent company but I think I hit a homer with Maverick
There terminals suck but the people are great. The western division you can get home after 7 days if you need to, but they want you out 2-3 weeks at a time. I dont know how the reefer side is, but with the dry side you always had plenty of time to deliver. I never ran out of hours, just gotta know how to use an split break when you need too. Equipment is great too along with thier trailers. good luck
My husband runs for May. When he was company driver he was getting 2500 to 3000 miles a week. Was home every 3 to 5 weeks by our choice with 3 to 4 days off when he was home....Now that we are O/O he is getting 3000 to 3200 miles per week. He stays out now 5 to 7 weeks at a time (again this is our choice) and on his home time he is home for a week. Been with May now for 2 years and have no complaints. He is on the reefer side out of Payette, Idaho. Also both my brother in laws are also O/O for May and they said they average 3000 miles a week and have no complaints. Both brother in laws are out of Layton terminal.
Just a short update here. Finished Orientation with May on Friday. There were 3 of us in the class and we decided to go out to eat Thursday night. What a mistake, got food poisoning and was sick as a dog all night and Friday. Well, we finished up the final paperwork and then learned they were having a little problem getting trainers or rides to trainers into Pensacola on Friday. I really didn't feel like riding a truck anyway and told Dave (the one leading orientation), no problem. He paid for another night at the hotel for me and another guy in the class and sent the 3rd guy home until Tuesday, (lives about an hour away) and we're all being paid for this time as of Friday. Can't complain about that. These people seem really good and willing to work with you. So, here it is Saturday and the other guy that was at the hotel with me met his ride to hook up with his trainer, somewhere in Kansas I think. My ride should be here in an hour or two but not sure where we'll meet my trainer yet. It's nice to finally get going. The more I'm around May, the more convinced I am that I made the right choice.
I'll update again when I can.
