    Default Knight Transportation Southern CA

Can anyone tell me about this company as well? It seems like it may be desirable to work for a smaller company and I like what they list on their co profile (but then, that's always the hook )!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone able to say what kind of miles and whether they treat their drivers as well as they say?

I worked for knight from 10/04 till 09/06, run line-haul for Dats now. Knight is a hard place to describe. They have alot of so-called terminals, or"service centers", but each one is run indepently from the others and they all compete for freight. Some say this is good, some crab about it. Miles are usually not a consistent thing, I ran dedicated from SLC to LA twice a week so I did good, but when I started 3300 one week and 1700 the next. It depends on if you and your dispatcher get along and if you always turn down loads.

If southern cal is where your looking at, the fontanna yard to be precise, that terminal/drop yard, whatever the hell it is has a very high turnover rate, and you may well have to do local stuff for a whole $12 and hour.
I was treated very well, but was never happy with the pay. Knight has very brilliant people working for them and they know how to spray paint that grass on their side of the fence just a little greener than the other side. They don't pay for experience at all. You will be starting out at the same rate as the new guy with 4 months exp. Their bennnies are standard. 401 is absolutley lousy, The only reason to even look at it is the company match, which again sucks.

If you just want a job for the next few years to pay bills or whatever, Knight isn't bad. I had a very easy time with them, I also did 90% of my own work though too. Tried not to depend on anyone more than I had to.
But if your looking for a long-term company, your best bet is to look somewhere else. You can make alot more money with crete or CFI or a host of others. Being in southern Cal"If I read you post right" You have a HUGE pool of trucking companys to research and check out. Don't settle for less if you don't have to.

I make about the same doing line-haul, but i work 15-20 hours less a week and I'm home every day now. Anyway, sorry for the book, shoot me a PM if you need more info, I can tell you about some of the SLC term
dispatchers and company policys and stuff if you decide to go with Knight.

    See ya

12 bucks/hr for local work?!?! You'd have to pay me double (with overtime after 40) in SoCal before I'd even THINK about turning the key to the right. Damn, how do they get people to work so cheap? I'd laugh in their faces if they offered me those kind of wages.

Wages for certain segments (espically containers) in SoCal are depressed by a large pool of immigarant Hispanic and Sikh O/Os who will work for peanuts.

You don't get me off my couch & away from my Xbox here in Northern Nevada for anything South of $15 for casual work.

Knights local guys down in southern cal are all noobs, right out of truck school. Knight swoops in and grabs someone and says." Hey, we'll pay you you, Blah-Blah, but we'll give you 70 hours of easy work a week." And then the for a short time, they have a new driver.

I agree that the local pay is terrrible, but dependind on wheither or not all their locals guys quit, he may not do that much. I can't say. I never had to do that much, because I always knew which customers around the terminal usually had Mt's hidden somewhere and my dedicated account was 4 blocks south of the terminal in fontanna.

And I agree with the work for peanuts comment. But on the other hand, I saw and awfully lot of signs and other postings for driving jobs paying well over knight's $12. If you work for low wages in So Cal by choice, then maybe they deserve them.
