I'm not really 'in the know' as you put it, but based on what I've seen, heard and read about each company, it would be a no brainer decision. Averitt hands down. Good luck.

I take it, you are considering LTL? local or line-haul or a combination? Where do you live? got doubles endoresement? like driving at night? like team driving? got hazmat end.?

I'm entry level. Just graduated from a NC Community college course.
They both take students. I'm assuming I'll have to go OTR, since local LTL jobs are posted and filled from within.
I have my Hazmat endorsement. Will also get my doubles endorsement this week. I will have to go with a trainer for 6 weeks or so. Then I'll go solo. I don't have any problem going team with the right person.
Also no problem driving at night.

Any other companies I shoould consider?
I would prefer a company with a terminal located within an hour of my house since I don't have a place to park the truck.
I'm an hour north of Charlotte NC.

I have no personal knowledge of Epes but I have some on Averitt and it was not the best. If you have questions please feel free to PM me and I will try and answer them for you.

If I remember right Epes is in Greensboro and being 1 hour north of Charlotte should put you close by. Also, there are other options on parking a truck other than your home. There is a tanker company where I live that often has other company trucks parked in its lot for local drivers while they are off. Some truckstops close to your home may allow you to park there with permission. Check out some other options before you discount a company because they are not close by.

I worked for epes before I went to work for Averitt over 2 years ago.
    Go with Averitt.
I learned what epes really meant after I left.
