For some of the larger compaines, they get government subsidies for students crashing trucks, and the # hired, so it is possible they want you to fail prior to the commencment of their loan period.

Its not hard to believe. If they'll risk turnover on the LP programs, why not on a company driver?

The last I heard, there was NO contract in CA. because the state doesn't recognize SNI as an accredited school.
If you bail out of Fontana, they can't make you repay the contract. Simply put, the contract Isn't there In California. There trying to change It. I recommend paying this website a visit. www.pumpkindriver.com

They did have some union at one time. I broke into the buisness in '91 with SNI and they were just "phasing" out the last of the union folks.

Yep they were-I hate unions now but the Teamsters were ok then and then the Old Man(Al Schneider) died and Donny and Susie took over and they, in my opinion, got too big. I think the Tanker Division was the last to go non-union in the 90's.
I swear Al Schneider knew every driver he had in his brain. Pull into the Old terminal in GB and if he was outside he'd come to you and call you by your name and ask how things were going.
I still, and I don't have any recent personal knowledge of this, believe Schneider would be an OK company to start with. I'm sure there are Better companies to start with and I'm sure there are worse companies to start with.

The best deal I'm aware of right now is Dock to Driver at some LTLs like Con-Way & FedEx. If you are willing to do dock work for 3-5 months you will have a genuine free and clear CDL with a good job when you finish. You can leave but I challenge you to find another gig that pays 40 cpm+ and $17/hr for everything else you do.

You can also play "lets make a deal" with many of the CDL schools. When it gets slow they are often willing to discount to have a full class. Look at the quality of the equipment you will be training on and where the grads end up.

Unless your credit is awful you can likely get a loan from a bank or credit union at much better rates than credit cards or the captive finance of the schools.

go get your cdl on your own , schools have grant money and student loans. my self i made to much money last year to get pell grant money. but the student loans have low interest rate. my schooling was about 4900.00 . 17 weeks on the weekends so i could still work . and make sure you get everything[ tank, haz, doubles and triples] this way you can be a little bit more choosy on the job you take.

I am a schneider Driver. I passed my 1 year mark last month, i owe nothing, and i trained in Dallas. ( considering, i'm from there) 12 months mate, thats all. Then you owe nothing. SNI is a great company, but as you see not everyone is one the same page. Its a problem with big companys like that...I would recommend for SNI for the training. If you can put up with it for a year..then you will do find. My advice IS TO TEAM!
