Default Question about brand new trucks

I have a question about brand new trucks, hubby's fleet manager at swift, has said that all them trucks they have in Memphis are basically useless because they have to wait up to 6 months for insurance and permits, etc. Is there any truth to this? I know I can't believe we decided on swift but when you basically have to start over again, it's better than nothing!

It might take 6 weeks or so to get all the permits, but 6 months....I doubt it. The only way I can see it taking that long is if someone is being lazy at Swift.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

Perhaps Swift is feeling a cash flow crunch. If they don't have the cash for all the plates, insurance, and permits then they may have to wait to transfer from old trucks to new trucks.

Either that or whoever your husband talked to has no clue, which wouldn't surprise me either.

Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Just hubby does, I've been thinking about driving, but we're talking more and more about getting regular local jobs.

your trucks will sit until the theirs a current truck ready to be put out to pasture. if a truck cant be traded in until it has a certain milage then it makes no economical sense to fill that new truck and hassle with plates regerstration etc....

When did Landstar start buying trucks? I thought that was a 100% owner-operator company.

For some reason when people use the term "hubby", it's like scraping your fingernails on a chalkboard to me.
You can take the driver out of the truck but you cant take the truck out of the driver.

    Default Contact Memphis number below

I hauled brand new trucks for Swift into their yards at both Memphis and Phoenix. When Swift quit hauling the trucks I went back into freight for them. They were getting the truck I got [brand new Volvo] licensed and permitted and did so within a week in Phoenix.

It is not true that it takes six months to get permits etc ... He should talk to Jim White at the Memphis terminal, he assigns the trucks. (800) 238-6675 x4806. He was/is my only contact after being there 28 months. He is a straight shooter and will tell you the TRUTH; whether it is good, bad or ugly....

Good luck and get a Volvo screw those Freightliners. Yes, they have electrical problems but are a more quiet ride than Freightliners.
