Is the language really necessary? Take it somewhere else. If you can't express your opinions or feelings without dropping curse words then don't say anything at all. Grow up.

Once upon a time Con-Way had the account.

When I was in training one of our sales folk gave a talk. He referred to HD as the crazy ex-wife that we would not touch with a 10ft pole. Lots of ugly freight and very late appointment times with lots of OT.

I just wonder who "won" the business.

Trust me there will be a time this winter when they "dont care" about you when your sitting at home wondering how you will pay your bills. I hope you dont have alot of bills to pay, because when you ask them why you are not getting a call-they too will say WHO CARES. BTW, keep in mind that at 80% of scale you are making the same or even less than most people on this board, so just chill a little. You have alot of dues to pay.

Driverman, my brother drives for Estes. We were just talking about this Wed. night with a bunch of other Estes drivers. According to them , just the Houston region lost this acct, not the whole company, and several Houston Drivers were laid off as well. My brother works out of the Alexandria, LA terminal.

8 drivers got laid off , they didn't lose there jobs . It's called collecting unemployment , You get a break from your job , collect $300+ a week and work under the table for $300 more a week . Big deal you take a paycut for a few months , That's what I'm doing now , but I'm not complaining . There are 100's of drivers and dockworkers getting laid off every week , it's called winter .

    Default thank God for Brown.....

and after reading this thread I'm glad I'm at where I'm at. Estes (according to the So. Cal. Teamster paper) just had a union election @ it's LaMirada and Fontana locations. Never heard the results. I know we are in full on "Christmas mode" right now. My sets are getting heavier each trip. Bah ! Humbug, I say.....

I hope you're not putting your company into the same catagory as Estes. The twoo of you do completely different things. thats like comparing mickey d's with dairy queen. Both are in the fast food business, but they both have thier special little "niche". ups being parcel delivery for the most part and estes being freight (ltl to a certain degree)delivery.Your post ,in my demented mind anyway, suggested you may have been "boasting" that your business is picking up (duh! its holiday time) while some other company drivers freight are starting to fade away abit. We should ALL compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges, and not confuse the two. happy thanksgiving everbody

    Default What ??

It wasn't boasting at all. It's just our season to pick up and LTL's to slow down, it's fact of life. Oh and BTW we don't just carry little boxes anymore. We've been in the freight biz for a long time...And it is LTL..We carry freight on trucks, ships and the Brown Air Force...After the holidays I can go back to my nice normal routine....Freight is Freight period.

I truely understand your companies operations, thats why I wrote,"UPS being parcel delivery for the most part" ,"for the most part", meaning the majority of ups revenue comes from "parcel delivery". Parcel delivery includes "freight" being transported via trucks, planes, ships whatever means neccasary.Check your companies yearly financial report (as I'm sure you have), and you'll find that the majority of revenue comes from parcel delivery. There's not a dam thing wrong with, in your words, "carrying little boxes", but there are different "classifications" (for lack of a better word),
in trucking operations. One should not put ups in the same catagory as,for example, yellow or roadway. Yes they are "ltl" depending on ones definetion. But check the transport industries publications and you will find there are "catagories", etc. when it comes to defining transportation entities.Example: ltl:union:common carrier: private carrier: it goes on and on. Sorry to babble on so much. I'm done.

The term "freight" in regards to shipping/receiving deals mostly with packages greater than 150 lbs that may or may not be palletized. The term "parcel" has more to do with non-palletized packages with some sort of length/weight restriction.

This is why FedEx rebranded American Freightways/Viking as FedEx Freight and why UPS rebranded Overnite as UPS Freight because the word "freight" has a very distinct meaning in the view of shippers/receivers.

Home Depot is changing alot of thing around right now. We just got them as a new acount for recycled pallets. So far it's been a joke. They call for a trailer to be picked up and when we get there it's still empty. Just the other day in Annapolis, MD I went to pick one up and it was loaded with Christmas inventory. I asked why and the manager said they had no room on the floor so they used our trailer. We then handed them a bill for warehouse space
