I was told by an employee at JB Hunt that drivers get on average 2500-3000 miles/wk. Are there any JB Hunt Drivers on the board that can verify this for me? I am supposed to be going to their driving school next week.

Warning, once JB finds out you are alive, they will never stop calling you.
Realize though that this is claculated on a 7 day week. Not very good miles for 7 days. If this were for a 5 day week it would be average.
JB took a break for about a year and then in the last 3 or 4 weeks they have been calling pretty regularly. its a different person each time so i have to tell him/her that i am not interested in the opportunity anymore. they just dont seem to put it in the computer or on the sheets. :?Originally Posted by Clay51

As far as the driving school goes, I know that back in April and May when I was at Central Tech in Drumright Ok. they were sending some of the new hires there for thier schooling and license.

Fleet-wide average at JB Hunt is less than 2100 miles/week, which is not too good. Average trip is only 520 miles or so.
Bascially lots of short/medium hauls. That's why they pay around .40 cpm. It's also why they're always recruiting.![]()

lets see 520 miles X 5 days is 2600 miles. I never had any problems getting miles when I worked for J B either as a company driver or an O/O. I just had a good understanding with my dispatcher and he provided the miles.

Looks like each tractor averaged give-or-take 2,055 miles per week.
Let's say that 330 tractors were sitting idle in a terminal somewhere. That would still only work out to around 2191 miles per week.
So how are people coming up with 2600 miles for an average when JB's own financials indicate otherwise?
because alot of those drivers are just sitting around because they dont want to run or they dont want the load the dispatcher is giving them or they complain to there dispatcher about where the load is going or they are late so the dispatcher's dont give them the miles. You cant average the miles between all the tractors because some people run and others dont. Not dis agreeing with your research you took the time to look it up but you have been around long enough to know some people just dont run
There's always some type of excuse . There's not a driver I've ever met who just wanted to sit and not run at least 2500 miles a week . Most drivers want all the miles they can handle . Some of the drivers get 1500 , others probably get 3500 , but coldfrostymug is right , the average is probably around 2100 .

OK so let's say that out of 5,330 tractors, 30% (1,600 tractors) were lazy and got crappy miles (less than 2,000 a week). The remaining 3,830 tractors would STILL not average 2,600 miles per week.
I've always said that JB was low miles and lots of sitting. The numbers appear to back me up .![]()
yep i see that in sheepdancers message and if you do the numbers that is what it comes out to. I am speaking from my experinces with them and I never had a problem getting miles but then I like to run. i look at it this way the more miles i run the more money my dispatcher makes the more miles he keeps trying to get me and my truck

The problem I have is with these recruiters making claims that just aren't true. Because not everyone is gonna get those miles. It's just impossible given the numbers that JB states in its financials.
Another thing is that more miles will go to the +900 lease trucks than will to the company drivers, so that means company-driver average is even lower. :shock:
now i met some of those lease drivers and for some reason as soon as they had there own truck and started saying I am an O/O now I can turn loads down. Well that is not going to help you get miles. I dont think I have ever turned a load down. Money is money got to pay the bills right
Of course the numbers add up. We are given a report on average fleet miles and thats exactly what they do...Average between the number of miles and avail trucks. I would love to be able to scan the report and post it here...but thats not going to happen....lol. I can say that just like any big company we are audited independantly for miles every quarter and these audits back these numbers up. Keep in mind that these reports and audits include all of our trucks, even the dedicated and local. Local will traditionally be low miles.....some of our dedicated runs have higher miles than OTR. Fleet average on last report was 2560. I still stand by my statement. If you are a smart driver and work the system right you will have no problem getting the miles you need to make a very good living.Originally Posted by ColdFrostyMug
Ok now I see the report you are talking about. obviously that just includes one portion of our fleet.....not our entire fleet. Like I said, the reports I get include ALL of our trucks. We have over twice as many trucks as that report you posted indicated.
