Oh, I don't doubt that trucks can hit triple digits...I've been passed by a few.

But I find 147 a wee bit much to believe.

Twilight see the problem is my dad ran during the ERA of when the boss would had you 3 sets of ENVOLPES when he started one had your bills one had your cash for the fuel for the truck and the LAST one had the pills to keep you awake at alot of companies. He ran alot of times with California Shaker and Plum Crazy. Yet my father ran over 3 million miles without an ACCIDENT of anykind whatso ever. He was also driver of year af Shitgall transfer in 1981 and 1983 Veniza transport Streator IL Terminal 1986 and Employee of the Year same place 1987 Driver of the Year Fitzmimons Trucking 1988-90 Trainer of the Year there also in 1991. So when he says he was tagged doing 147 I tend to take him at his word.

There's also the physical and psychological ramifications of going that fast. Years ago before I grew a brain, I had been on a motorcycle doing a bit over 100....ONCE. I had my Chevy Beretta bouncing on the 120 mph pin (probably just a bit over it at 125 at the most)...ONCE. This was on a motorcycle and in a car and both times, it scared the living daylights out of me. We're not talking about a seasoned racecar driver...we're talking about someone not accustomed to it. At 120, there's no chance to react...everything is a blur and it does effect your body.

So, 147? In an 80,000 truck? Not a chance in hell unless you were free-wheeling down an 8% grade with no brakes and that's when they scrape you off the side of the mountain with a spatula.

He was probably hauling super secret hazmat, and trying to gain speed so he could put it in the lake if it went bad.

Good God ! Sam Tanksley ! (AKA Shirley Temple) Haven't seen one of those since the 70's. Was one of my first jobs..Jesus, we ARE old....(and the "Monfort lane is the LEFT lane). And fuel was 31 cents a gallon (Rather high) and I was "styling" driving from Van Nuys, CA. to Oskaloosa, Iowa once a week for Tanksley in my cabover Peterbilt with a big-cam 350 squeezer...Ah, to be young again. Oh and 147 mph ???? nahhhhhhhhhhhh.....sounds like BS to me..
