Default Where is the best place to recruit drivers?

Hey all,

I'm an HR Coordinator newly employed with Magnum. I've never recruited truck drivers, and I am struggling finding candidates. We need drivers with minimum of 1 year experience, where should I look/advertise?

Start with your own drivers and find out what will keep them.

Their all happy from what I hear. The majority of our new hires are by driver referral. There is such a shortage on good drivers, I know there out there somewhere!

personally, I would not consider Magnum if I were looking to get hired.

reputation precedes you that miles are short, equipment isn't the best kept and drivers are second class citizens. Inadequate hometime, lousy pay etc. Granted I had an ex-BIL that worked there years ago, but having seen how he was treated, I'd tend to lend some credence to that reputation.

If companies in the tri-state area such as yours as well as others can't find drivers, then it's a matter of trying to figure out how to stick out from the others. And I know there are several companies with better reps than yours that can't find drivers.

Yes, drivers are in HIGH demand, and there are too few out there.

Magnum is not what it was years ago! We have excellent managers in the Blaine terminal that have come from Roadway and UPS. Magnum is working on their culture as we speak. I came from a larger distribution company that micro-managed the heck out of people. The stress is enough to kill you there. This company cares, and works hard to do what is best for their employees. My grandpa, brother, uncles and even an aunt were truck drivers!

Ask you bosses if they are willing to pay Walmart driver packages? Or 50 CPM and $17.50 per hour for an otr driver.

Because that's the kind of wages that it will take to get people to beat on your door.

Then hold the dispatchers accountable to keep the drivers doing their jobs and not screwing a driver with detention. When a driver has to be home, get them there timely and in a reasonable fashion. I know it can be done because any day of the week I can find me a load going anyplace in the country with a reasonable rate.
