This is probably a mid-life crisis; but I am currently employed in the HAZMAT transport field...work every day, make above average money, but I HATE the job.
I'm a bit of a dinasaur in this industry...been an owner operator (still currently own a few trucks I primarily use for my own side work and truck shows during the season.) I tend to favor older trucks instead of the new ones with all the issues with sensors, DPF, etc. I'd love to find a job running a 30 year old Pete or KW believe it or not.
I am plenty capable of making quick decisions on the fly, I do most all of my mechanical work whenever it needs to be done...don't need a GPS to find my way (although I must admit, they come in handy if you already know the way.)
I have a 24 year old son that recently landed a job driving a 1981 W900A with a set of twin sticks...that's my style. This isn't the way it's supposed to happen; the kid's supposed to be working his way up the ladder and DAD'S supposed to be where
he is...lol.
In all seriousness...I'm looking to change jobs from this mega-corporate position I am currently stuck in, to a smaller, more personalized operation that I can provide my services, my help, my experience and become a part of the team rather than a 4 digit number after 30 years in this occupation.
Seem honest enough? That's my story. I figured it would help answer some of the preliminary questions.
Again, started in 1978, been in just about all facets of the industry from flatbed, stepdeck, lowbed, oversize, tanker, reefer...currently in hydrocarbon gas transport looking for change.
I have tank, HM and TWIC, air brake cert., completely clean license, Homeland Insecurity clearance of course...just renewed this month for another 4 years. Consciencous, hard work ethic, former owner operator still dabbling...just looking for that customized fit so I can continue to enjoy this business a while longer.Equipment operator as well as a driver. Still in good health, no issues whatsoever, no medications at all.
If there's any old timers or old school thinkers looking for help, I'd love to talk a little.
Thanks for puttin' up with all this.
