As a Landstar O/O, I constantly turn frt. down. I am appalled at the rates some agents call me with, then try to "sell me" on how easy the load is, or how good the frt. is on the other end. Never haul cheap frt. just to get a good load on the other end. I will run empty before hauling cheap. A Freightliner dealer has NEVER volunteered to reduce his rates for repairs on my truck just because he was in a "cheap rate" area.
Lookin forward to the last mile,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Turn down loads all the time if it doesnt go where I wantr to go.

Only turn down loads going to NYC
Just what it is wrong with NYC????![]()
Why is it when I press one for ENGLISH I still can't understand the person on the other end???

Shadetree, you are sure to ruffle Doc's feathers with talk like that...![]()
Only when you know you've done the best you can, are you truly satisfied.
only thing about NYC... STAY OFF ANYTHING THAT SAYS PARKWAY
Keep turning downs, and see how much cheaper you will work for when the mortgage come due. Never ever turn down a load. The company i work for understands if you do run out of hours, just be honest. That is a ticket you do not want.
I am on a roll, and this is just my view.

It's all depends on a price! I did run 2 loads to NYC from OH, this week, paid me $2,525 for 1,253 "hub" miles! So, why not!Originally Posted by shadetree4u

I don't know about that, but that's where the MONEY is!8)
Definitely stay off Parkways.....NYC, Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island. If the State Police don't stop you first, the low bridges will knock the top off your truck. Highest in center gradually sloping down to the sides. Only made for cars and passenger vans. No pickup trucks either. No Commercial Traffic allowed....pickups and vans without rear windows are commercial vehicles in NY.Originally Posted by shadetree4u

Take anything and you won't have the mortgage money anyway!Keep turning downs, and see how much cheaper you will work for when the mortgage come due. Never ever turn down a load.
And last of all...How come this poll question doesn't list "rates not high enough" as one of the reasons? It should be at the top of the list.
We turn down freight frequently due to the rates. Always seem to come up with something better if we hold out. If you don't think it's available, see what some of the big carriers profits increased this year. The rates are out there, you just need to demand a piece of them.
I only turn down a load when I am running out of hours or when I am sick. If the load is crapy I get sick real fast. Never did it to often but when I needed to.
You don't have to like it you just have to do it!
