PS. Bush won

Ill take the 18 speed myself.
PS.boo hiss boo
13 speed for me. I drove a nine on my first job and hated it. You forgot the super ten's, I like super tens cause it allows me to be lazy with my shifting. However between the super and the 13, I'll go with the 13.
super 10 slap. I would like to find the person who dreamed that tranny up and put it where the sun doesnt shine on him.
excellent visual, I think it would probably hurt.
Ah yes the Super 10 a glorified Spicer 10 speed... Don't forget about Eatons other two gems the Super 13 and 18... Ranks right up there with Sanchez' evaluation of the Super 10!!!
I placed my vote with the 18 since that comes close to the 5x4 Quad Box I learned how to drive with... I do miss the 16 speed Spicer I had in the W-900 that was a fun transmission especially in rush hour traffic on the Cross Bronx Expressway....
I noticed no one has picked the Autodrives, at least not yet! CFI and USExpress are the only two big companies that have them in their road trucks, there maybe more.
The gas hauler I drove for had Rockwell 10 speeds not really a bad transmission when the truck was loaded but when it was empty drivers had to start off in either 4th or 5th to get the truck up to speed.. Then came the Eaton Autodrives, again really not bad under a load but empty they weren't worth a flip... I know the company has now switched back to the Rockwell 10 speed I wonder if it was for maintenance reasons!
Why is it when I press one for ENGLISH I still can't understand the person on the other end???
Ahhhh Doc such memorys. 16 speed spicer. splitting every gear 4 times. First one I ever had the pleasure to drive was in a 1972 crane carrier concrete truck. With a 220 detroit with no turbo. It really wasnt that bad but it was a gutless wonder. And speaking of the 5x4 Doc that wasnt included in the poll either. Or hey just a tad bit off subject. But any of the above with an air clutch.
Yeah such fun.... I drove a Ryder rental that had an air clutch what a POS!!!
Mack also had a transmission similar to the Spicer, I drove a Superliner that had a Mack 12 Speed set up exactly like the 16 Spicer.
Ah yes the 5x4 either Spicer or Mack what a transmission! Two sticks and a real busy driver shifting and trying to keep the truck on the road![]()
I really miss the challange!!

Wow, sorry for leaving out a few, wasn't aware of them except the super 10, never drove one, whats so bad about them.
I run a 13, but was looking at getting a 10 speed with a little bigger motor then the old Detroit on my next truck.
Whats wrong with a super 10 Auto shift manuel transmission. Now the name in itself says it all. But try having a manuel transmission that will auto shift. Go and decide to shift while you are climbing a snowpacked Mountain road in colorado or some other mountain range. Or even on flat ground for that matter.
PAB don't worry about missing a few transmissions there have been so many over the years!!!
I think Sanchez can remember when GMC introduced the straight 6 speed and the straight 7 speed. The 7 speed was not too bad but the 6 was a pain in the ass!!!
I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Eaton gem the 6 speed Road Ranger. Now there was a prize transmission I would rather drive a Super 10 before I'd get in another Ford L-9000 with the 6 speed Road Ranger.
This transmission was so bad the truck didn't get up to a decent road speed until the transmission was in 5th on the high side!!!![]()

Lets see straight 7 speed. Old old PAM cabovers. Now on to 6 speed old GMC UPS truck with a air clutch. Dont forget the mack straight 5 now. Or the 2 stick mack. Not unlike the 5x4 but the second stick was just high - low and reverse.
The Mack 5 speed Maxitorque it only worked in the Mack although a mechanic I know tried to tie one to a screaming 238 Detroit with very, very little success!!!

The mack 12spd was a great tranny, with the flip of the switch you could run thru all 5 gears in reverse.
I ran a 54' White with a 220 and a 5x4, and a 72' pete with a 6x4.
Almost went to work for an outfit that ran 13x4's.
The Mack twelve speed was fun all 5 gears in reverse well it was fun in till I backed into the paver going a little to fast.
And the Old Maxidyne (sp) Brake-Might as well stick your hand out the window to slow down :P
I see quite a few older beat up looking R model Mack trash/roll off trucks around my area. I've asked a few of the drivers what trans they had and most said 5 speed. Are those trannys synchro'd and do they still use a high/low range selector?
Its a straight 5 speed and you have to double clutch it . That tranny i think is the worst i have ever driven it sifts at real low rpms. So if your pulling a hill and your in 3rd the motor is screaming but when you go to 4th you have to let the rpms drop so much it dogs when you grab it. you cant win with that thing.
Yooper i know what you mean about them so called jake brakes them things are say about use less. We had a 87 r model with one of them and that thing sucked if it wasn't for the little bit of noise it made i would have never used it. :P
straight four over four with splitter(16 speed) used to like daf range change box but don,t do them anymore as prone to snap linkages, BOY!! could you move with that gear box. beat small vans away from traffic lights if you went for it![]()
