Having heard in the news that several truckers have protested the rising cost of fuel. O/O's, at what price do you think you'll consider a career change, if any?
What do you think the future fuel source should be for big rigs?...
A) $4.00 per gallon
B) $5.00 per gallon
C) $6.00 per gallon
D) I'm planning on retiring with the next price increase. Because I've decided, a bad day of fishing, is better than a good day of Trucking.
E) I'm made of money, I'll keep driving regardless of the fuel prices.

Hasn't this been covered in a number of topics already?
My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.Thomas Jefferson- Democratic-RepublicanResponsibility is the ability to choose your response. Victims choose to be controlled by outside forces, Responsible people maintain control by making a choice.
A alternative fuel source would be biofuels, it's made in the USA and it'll help the farmers here in the midwest.

Which head are you using? If fuel goes up to $6/gal. you may find yourself OUT OF WORK. Sure, the profit may still be there... IF YOU CAN FIND A BUSINESS THAT'S STILL IN BUSINESS. The other day, I tried counting how many businesses were shut down and lost track at about eighty. A number of them were places that I used to deliver to about 6 years ago or so. Back then, they were doing great, expanding to try to keep up with demand. Now, the yellow signs out front say "REALESTATE AUCTION. By the time fuel gets up to $6/gal, there will be MANY more. You won't be hauling loads for companies that aren't companies anymore. And it won't make any difference how well the fuel surcharge keeps you profitable.Originally Posted by BanditsCousin

You are right. Alhough trucking won't dissapear, the companies could shut their doors. We'll still need groceries, tradeshows, and people will still move cross country.
We had it so good for a long while that we didn't plan for the prices to go up like they had, or anticipated the growth in China and other countries having an increased demand for fuels as well.
