    Default Truckers and Depression

Stumbled on this article and started wondering, is this really a problem?

I dont get depressed often, but occassionally I think of family and friends and what I may be missing out on. Even though Im divorced, (Trucking didnt cause it, but probably prolonged the marriage) and her and I get along well since the divorce, Ill sometimes dwell on the past, generally thinking of the good times, and that can bring me down.
Depression can easily occur for many reasons, probably most significate would be seperation from the family, especially during family events and holidays.
New drivers can become depressed as they attempt to "adapt" to their new "lifestlye".

Thanks Drew. Kind of what I thought too. Any lifestyle change "can" cause depression, especially with the irregular sleep on the road. I was just curious as to how many people feel that it's prevalent in the industry.

I doubt that I count since I was diagnosed with depression years before I started driving. Actually, driving seems to help some as I don't have the same mundane tasks to do day after day, hour after hour. Driving takes my mind off of things and makes me think about other issues. I get more depressed the longer I'm at home. Thankfully, though, I have a very understanding wife and am not bad enough to require medical treatment. Well, I'm supposed to be on a mild anti-depressant, but I stopped taking them when I began my career in driving.

I have come to believe that some of the depression is caused by being in a truck by yourself day after day, You can talk to your spouse or family on the phone but not being there does wear you down.
Don't trust anybody. Especially that guy in the mirror.

    I love Sarcasm!
On the edge of sleep, I heard voices behind the door
The known and the nameless, familiar and faceless
My angels and my demons at war'

    At war...

'Which one will lose depends on what I choose
Or maybe which voice I ignore...'

    Wilderness of mirrors
    Streets of cold desire
    My precious sense of honor
Just a shield of rusty wire
    I hold against the chaos
And the cross of holy fire

    Wilderness of mirrors
    So easy to deceive
    My precious sense of rightness
    Is sometimes so naive
    So that which I imagine
    Is that which I believe

Depression used to bother me quite abit and mostly it was from reliving the past and not from being away from family, but now that I ride the line between sane and insane (insane most of the time, but I put on a good sane act) everything seems to even out.

Yes. It is. The other is getting home to my wife. Unless she's with me, then I don't get depressed.
