    From Wikipedia...

In the mid-western United States, a soft drink with ice cream added is most often called an "ice cream soda," or soda, for short as they were made at soda fountains.

Me three. The only one that doesn't taste like rat piss.

But I'd call it a "soda" or a "cola" but never "pop." "Pop" is probably the more common term here where I grew up, but I intensely despise the term for reasons relating to the nature of my miserable childhood as a geek at a time when anybody who knew anything about a computer was automatically gay, and needed daily beatings.

I have called them both. Except when we go to the south where you order a "coke" and when the waitress ask you what kind of coke you want then you can specify orange, coke, 7 up, rootbeer or whatnot.

A point well worth making, Jackrabbit!!

You are correct; down here, south of The Mason-Dixon Line, (in Texas, that means south of Dallas/Ft. Worth....anything north of that means your a Yankee!!) a cooler or ice chest filled with "Cokes" is akin to having a cooler or Ice Chest full of beer.

Very common in a Texans conversation:

    "Whudduya got in the chest??"

    (Reply) ........"Cokes"

"Oh yeah?? Whut KINDDUH Cokes ya'gott??"

I just thought of one I haven't heard in years. My Grandma use to call "Coke", a dope. A lot of folks here in the south use to call them that. ( She would be 112 years old now).
Find something you like to do, be the best at it you can be, the money will come.
