That's a good point, Mr. Ford. I also thought about that. At first I did. Then, I learned that he is concerned about his health. I couldn't see Meyer giving up like that, but whether he is using his health as a way out or not, I wish him the best.

Seems a bit odd. He quits right when Alabama starts to get rolling. The Tide is so young. They will dominate the next few years. When Meyer left Utah he was the hottest football coach on the planet. He has only increased his stock while at UF. Football coaches stay on the job for years. Just look at Paterno, Bowden just to name a few.

Urban Meyer is a great coach in my Opinion.. I love his Schemes.. but i think he might of believe that his talent has run dry for the time being and is taking a break.. I'm willing to put money on it he'll be back in a year or so!! Hell he's only 45

Yeah with his main money maker (Tebow) going to play on Sundays he's maybe taking a break for awhile. Like you said Hawkjr he'll be back!

People close to him are starting to talk about it and he made the right choice. Like any great coach he deals with a huge amount of stress and is a workaholic. Unfortunately heart problems run in his family. He has been to the hospital several times for chest pains and stress related pains. He is actually on medication. Hereditary heart problems are no joke. If he hadnt ended his career himself something else may have done it for him. Lou Holtz hired him at Notre Dame and has stayed close to him. He has talked to Meyer and reports that he is emotionally tore up about stepping down but he knows he has to. I'm sure not even Meyer himself knows whether he'll ever be back. Probably not on his mind right now. I'll bet he's considered this before but how do quit on Tebow who stayed till his senior season? Meyer is a great coach and a better man IMHO.

Now he has decided to not resign and instead take a few weeks off after the Sugar Bowl but also insists he will be the head coach when the 2010 season kicks off next year. That retracts 2 earlier reports, the first of which he resigned and the second of which he would be an advisor next year while current offensive coordinator Steve Adazzio was interim head coach. Meyer's wife was quoted earlier as saying that she would not allow him to change his mind on this retirement..............

When he said he was stepping down it was a shock but it made sense given the health issues. Now nothing makes sense. If the health issue is real then shame on those who would pressure him into staying. I'm sure its hard enough to quit without everyone making you feel guilty about it. Something really stinks here. Thats a pretty major decision to make and then retract less than 24 hours later.

He claims that on Sunday when the team had a final practice before leaving for New Orleans he had a change of heart, his players got to him and he decided he liked being around them and wanted to stay around them, that he wasn't quite ready to retire. If what the wife said was true about her not allowing him to change his mind, I hope he remembered to duck when he walked in the front door before she went all Elin Woods on him.

The school was willing to let him go as a coach, he was going to stay with UF though as an advisor to the team and coaches. That would have been a great move with the health issue's, all he has to do is sit back and watch the game and if a player or coach has a question he answers it. No game-planning, no recruiting trips, just tell them his thoughts.
