I still don't think the Nebraska D is where it used to be with Osbourne. They can have a good game then turn around and look really bad the next. They shouldn't have lost at VT this year, that had to make the Husker fans sick to see Taylor running around in circles for 15 seconds before he finally threw thw winning TD pass. Your right though, they really are hurting for a QB but what type of QB? Do they want a Tommy Frazier or a Ryan Mallett, a running QB or a passing QB? Maybe they can get a player like Colt McCoy who can run when he needs to but is deadly throwing the ball.
Very good point, Mr. Ford. I've always remembered Nebraska having good quarterbacks that had good rushing yards as well as passing.
I guess it would all depend on what type of offense you run. Nebraska always ran "smash mouth" football, and they passed well, when needed.
Most everyone now days runs spread offense. If you are a 'pocket passer', you can do really well, but you also need to be movable. I'm not a fan of Nebraska, but I think they need someone who has a deadly arm, but also can stack up the rushing yards.
The Huskers are a pass first team now. I have followed them my entire football watching career. They caught the passing bug a few seasons back just like a bunch of teams. They still try to kill you with defense. Bo is bringing them back to their Blackshirt roots. They have gotten away from recruiting the crushing tailback. In the late 80's to late 90's Lincoln was the place to be if you were a stud running back. Everyone from Roger Craig, Lawrence Phillips and Ahmen Green used to patrol that backfield.
I just got through watching PITT and Cincinnati. That was a good game. Cincy won, 45-44. 1st time I've seen Cincy play this year. It didn't matter to me who won, but I was kinda rooting for PITT. I like Dave Wannstedt.
I learned something today.I had no idea that Mike Ditka went to PITT.
I'm kinda shocked at myself for not knowing that. I guess I never knew what college Ditka went to.
It's ok Jack, some people don't know that he not only coached the Bears but that he also played for them. I like Pitt also with how Wannstedt is a no-nonsense coach, he seems to do it the right way and the players who play for him do learn some good stuff. He coaches like a drill sergeant and the players seem to both really like him and respect him. With the wife though, I have to root for Cincy since that is her hometown team. I would love to see Cincy and Texas play, talk about a track meet that would happen.
So Bama is in, wonder if Texas loses, does TCU have a shot still? It was brought up during GameDay by Chris Fowler but nobody really answered the actual question he posed. If Florida were to lose along with Texas losing, would TCU be able to get to #2 or would we see an SEC Title rematch but for the National Title this time? They said Florida would have to lose a close one to Bama in order to survive if Texas won a tight one over Nebraska.........Florida got stomped in every phase and much like what Bama did to VT to open the season, they did the same to Florida, wore them down and beat'em into submission. Florida obviously has no chance of getting a rematch if Texas wins, but what if Texas loses, currently losing in the 2nd quarter..........does TCU get a shot at the title?
I would say TCU is in, if Nebraska wins. What if TCU isn't in, because they are from a non-BCS conference?
Nebraska has had some good opportunities to score. Their offensive line isn't as big as it once was.
Texas got lucky!
They better enjoy it. They will be happy til Bama eats their lunch.
If I'm a Husker fan, I'd be awful tee'd off at Bo for several bonehead calls, the biggest, going conservative of their final offensive drive. Got into FG range and went with 3 straight runs to settle for the 3 points............stupid stupid stupid. I told the wife they just made a huge mistake, all Texas needed was a FG of their own to win it, which is exactly what happened, then you ask your placekicker to squib it down the field? Hasn't done that all night and he proceeds to kick it out of bounds. The offense had Texas on their heels and instead of keeping the juggernaut rolling they call 3 runs while they know Texas can stop the clock at least twice. Keep the drive going, force them to use their TO's and maybe you end the game with a chipshot game-winning FG as time expires if you don't score a TD first and at the very least leave as few ticks on the clock as possible.
So much for Cincy being a top-5 team.
Florida really ran through Cincy.![]()
Is Cincy really a ranked team, or did they just forgot to show up last night?
Well their offense never really showed up. They looked more like a Vandy team but remember, Brian Kelly usually called the offensive plays for them, he wasn't there last night. Everyone knew that you usually didn't stop Cincy if you wanted to win, you had to score and score a lot to beat them because their offense was so good but their defense wasn't so good. Florida showed that as did Pitt, you could score on them but their offense could come right back and score on you. They just never got on track last night but then again they hadn't faced a D all year that is as fast as Florida's D is. Pike had a terrible time everytime he dropped back to pass, the Florida D was all over him even at a 3 step drop.
Yeah, Flordia's D ate Pike up..
I can't believe Kelly is going to Notre Dame.Must be a lot of money in it.
What I've heard is that no other school has the money like ND does to get a coach.
Cincy just didn't show.. had nothing to show up for!!! At Least West Virginia showed up 3 years ago when Rich Rod left!!
TCU didn't do a whole lot. They couldn't run, and the passing game was off. I figured it would have been a shoot-out. I was hoping TCU would have won. Boise St put a stop on TCU.
The Orange Bowl should be exciting. Iowa vs Georgia Tech.![]()
