Yeah, my wife is from Georgia, and her family is hoping that both, Mizzou, and West Virginia lose this week. I wondered about that, and then I looked. If those 2 teams lose, that would move up Ohio State, and Georgia..
That might be interesting for the National Title.

I agree with the playoffs. The small schools do it, why not the big boys?

I dunno, guys. I've got mixed feelings about this. Coach Nutt is one helluva motivator and a super nice person and popular with the players. But he ran off a superb offensive coordinator (Gus Malzahn) and the #1 ranked high school quarterback in the country (Mitch Mustain) because he (Nutt) couldn't stand it that Malzahn was getting all the credit and praise when the Hogs were kicking everyone's butt last year. Nutt has an ego problem and would NEVER admit it when he screwed up. Nutt promised a national championship for the Razorback football program when he took over as head coach TEN YEARS AGO! Well we got as close as #5 in the polls last year. Close but no cigar. So I guess we'll have to start anew with another coach and staff and suffer those dreaded rebuilding years.

Actually, Snowman, I LIKE Ohio State. Believe it or not, they are one of my favorite teams. Born in Dayton, OH, so they are one of my favorites.

That said, however, my beef is with the BCS system and the Big 10 *$&#heads who ruin it...er, run it. Ohio State is in a weak conference. The Big 10 is nothing like the meatgrinders of the SEC or the Big 12. Everyone of them scarfs down 4 cream puffs just as fast as they can, in order to get to the 6 wins for being bowl eligible. The fact that the Big 10 has 9 or 10 eligible teams is a laugh. Anyone with an opinion can see that. Was listening to a top 10 list a week ago...don't remember where. The guy was saying "Alright, the game is over (referring to the Ohio State/Michigan game). Now can we all agree that the Big 10 absolutely sucks?" This was some ESPN guy, I think.

Bottom line, the Big 10 sucks and if Ohio State skates into the title game, having not played anyone of note (other than Illinois, who beat them at home), they are going to get mauled by whoever they play, be it WV (that would be an absolutely ugly game), Mizzou, or Georgia. As I said, I like Ohio State, but I'm not sold on them at all this year.

As far as how to do it, there's a hundred different doable scenarios out there. The best I've seen has an 8-team format that is based on the top 8 teams in a BCS type ranking. The first round are played standard bowl games in early to mid-december. The 2 semi-final games are BCS games, rotatable through the BCS like the title game is. And the title game is played on the off-week between the NFC/AFC Championships and the Super Bowl. It would guarantee top-dollar for the schools, guarantee maximum fan interest, and falling right between the championships and the Super Bowl, advertising would be at a premium.

Another good way to do it is a 10-game playoff, using conference champions to fill the bracket and 2 at-large bids for teams like Hawaii or Boise State or a powerful independent. For that to happen, though, the Big 10 would have to go to a split division and a playoff like everyone else. Try getting the Big 10 crap-heads to OK that.

At the most, teams would have to drop 1 cream-puff game and it would guarantee you that the more deserving schools make the other bowl games.

Anyway, in the overall scheme of things, it would give teams like Boise State (a couple years ago when they beat Oklahoma and were undefeated) and Hawaii a shot at a National Title, to name a few. Hawaii is undefeated...they are a division I school. They should have every right to play for a national championship. And what about Kansas? They have 1 loss...lost to Mizzou. Why should that one loss rule them out while 4 or 5 other one-loss team are still in the hunt. LSU? Hands down, one of the best teams in the land...both losses coming in 3 OTs.

All in all, the BCS is under the most fire it has ever been in. As each year goes by, these smaller schools like Boise State and Hawaii will only be joined by other smaller schools doing the same thing. Giving them a deserved-shot at a national title will increase their ability to recruit and bring more excitement to college football. In the direction it's going right now, college football is losing fans and interest. Everyone knows something needs to be done. The BCS runs through it's contract in '09. At that point, we'll see some type of playoff. The long-term survival of college football depends on some type of major change happening.

Guess that means McFadden is definitely going pro next year??

I really want to see WV and Mizzou play for the title, high power offenses both ways. Georgia does not belong, they did not win the SEC. Why should they deserve to be in?? OSU deserves, WV deserves, Mizzou if they win the Big 12, LSU if they win the SEC and VT if they win the ACC. Should be a rule that you must be a conference champ in order to play for the National Title.

I agree on the many ways to do it I'm just saying it'll still be the same schools in the hunt year after year. I disagree about the Big 10. I'm not saying they're the best just that at the top of any major conference those schools have the most resources, best recruiting and best coaching so you better come ready to play. I don't care if its the SEC, Big 12, Pac 10 or Big 10. These conferences and top teams are stacked. Period. Yeah last year we got blown out by Fla, not fun, but Penn State beat Tennessee and Wisconsin beat Arkansas. Our schedule was down this year but its not always like that. We just got done with home and away with Texas and I believe I heard something about doind that with USC. These schedules are made years in advance. We played Washington this year, who knew what kind of team they would have when it was planned? All these games against Ohio schools are because we wouldnt play them in the past. The people of Ohio wanted it so we started playing BGSU, Toledo, Cincy, Akron, Kent etc. They wanted our gate money and a shot at us as though they were entitled. I dont think we shy away from competion any more than anyone else with championship hopes does. If you think about it what contender wants to put Ohio State on their schedule? If we had a playoff then games such as OSU/Mich, Texas/Ok, Fla/Fla St, etc would lose alot of meaning. If we lose to Mich we still make the playoffs. Those lay it all on the line games are awesome. Playoffs are just another measuring stick, different from what we have, but better? I enjoy the traditions and realize you can have a great year without being a mythical NC. I also understand that in order to have a rivalry both teams have to be good so that means Mich will win sometimes. But when that game is for all the marbles there's nothing better. Remember last year when we were 1 and 2? Or how bout this year with Kan/Mizzou? Do or die, thats great drama. It wouldnt be the same if there was still life after a loss. Be careful what you wish for.

Yeah, but without a playoff system, teams like Boise State, Hawaii, etc., have no chance at winning a National Title. A couple years ago when Boise State went undefeated and beat Oklahoma, there is no doubt they could have beaten anybody and should have been the National Champion. Having a playoff system gives these smaller schools a shot and a well-deserved one at that. That's the problem with the BCS...it's always the same old schools and the fan-base is tired of it. It's stale and overused and without a change, it'll eventually die.

With all respect Mr. Ford, I disagree. Yeah, you are right, UGA didnt win the SEC East. Tennessee did. Reason is, Tennessee beat Georgia. (for some unknown reason)
If Kentucky would have beaten Tennessee, then Georgia would have won the SEC East, because Georgia beat Kentucky.
Tennessee has 3 losses. Georgia has lost 2 games. (Tennessee, and Vandy)

Yeah, Arkansas can be a National Champianship football team. Just have to put all the pieces together.
They have the qb brothers. Casey, and Nathan Dick. Both are great quarterbacks. They also have good talent in their defense, and offense as well. Good speed, and quickness all around.

I liked Coach Nutt, and his leadership, but I feel like he didnt utilize his passing game, when their running game was stopped.

Arkansas also needs a good defensive coach.

It's rumored that Arkansas will play Georgia in the Cotton Bowl. If that happens I don't know who I'll root for because I love both the Hogs and Dawgs! 8)

Oh dang! I wouldnt know who to root for, either.
My wife is from Georgia, and my mom's family lives in Arkansas. You know how folks in Arkansas love their Razorbacks. Same way with my wife. She loves her Dawgs.
    I'm in the middle. :P

You might be right, Midnight Flyer. I'm sure Tennessee will play in the Peach Bowl, since they won the SEC. They should play whoever won the ACC.

Well - it happens every time WV gets to a point where it's a make or break situation, they choke. It never fails.

Well, Pitt beat West Virginia. Is that an upset? :P
OU is taking care of Mizzou. OU is 9th, and of course, Mizzou is 1. Pretty sad when the #1 team is the underdog. Tells ya how tough Mizzou is. :P

They said that since West Virginia got beat, and Mizzou loses, Ohio State, and LSU may play for the title. How nice.

Well, half of my family is from Arkansas, so I hate LSU. Bunch of inbred heathens. Screw LSU, and the horse they rode in on. All I can say is,...LSU better not be ranked higher than Georgia. Just because LSU won the SEC doesnt mean that they are good for anything. Screw em. They couldnt beat Georgia on a good day. Screw those inbred cajuns.
