Default 34 hour restart question

When I figure out my hours after my restart on a paper log, do I start again with 70 hours or keep subtracting my previous 7 and 8 day hours?

the recap section of your log should TELL you to start over with 70 (assuming it is a qualified reset.) HOS rules, and logs, are the most important thing to know in this industry. Did you DO any research before jumping in?

In my Driver's Daily Log book, inside the front cover, where the Monthly Summary Sheet for hours is located it says,

"34-hour restart: If you meet the 34-hour restart requirements in section 395.3, you have 70 hours available again. You would then begin your totaling on he day of the restart and not go back to full 7 or 8 days."

So, yes, you would start over with 70 hours.

^^^ pretty much what they said, just make sure you do meet the requirements such as the time between midnight and ( i think) 5AM
With my run I don't have to worry about that BUT the one time I had to do 6 days instead of 5 I got burned! No valid reset so I was over my 70 for most of the following week! I guess that proves why you should do a recap ALL the time even if you work the 'same' hours every day. Oh well the company got over it and I learned a good lesson.

Saw this thread and thought I'd chime in with the newer regulations regarding 34 hour reset. There are three main rules that govern 34-hour resets. To qualify for a cycle reset, your 34-hour off duty period must comply with all three rules.

1) The off duty time must be at least 34 hours of continuous off duty time

2) The off duty time must include two separate periods of 1:00am-5:00am

3) You can have only one 34-hour reset in any 168 hour period

What do you guys think about that? Do you like those changes?

I just went to the FMCSA website, but so many sections are "outdated," I can only give you ONE answer.

To ME.

You can ask me any question, and I can give you the answer. Alternately... J.Keller has a small spiral bound book available in most truckstops that gives a pretty good summation.
