Default insulin exemption in only 12 months!!

    It only took 1 year! I exaggerate...only 11 months and 2 weeks.
I had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2005 which I controlled with oral meds, then in March of 2009 my Pancreas went on a extended vacation and I had to start using Insulin. So.. with Insulin prescription in hand (before I filled it) I filled my tractor with fuel and parked it.
The exemption process starts with 90 days of insulin use then...
A DOT physical showing that you are fit to drive except for the need for insulinthen...
A endocrinologist visit showing you have proper and safe control of your Diabetes then...
A visit to your Opthamoligist to see if you can see then...
You send all the paperwork to the Feds then.... Its Approx mid July
    Then YOU WAIT!!
Wow its November and you have a letter from the Feds...You open it ...Could it be!!!...NO.. Its a copy of your paperwork stamped "RECEIVED NOVEMBER 26"

I received my exemption March 3rd. No other medical info requests were made of either me or my TEAM of Doctors during this period...such efficiency...I'am lucky enough to own all my equipment and only drive as a income supplement. The average guy is having his truck towed away.
While I understand the need for safety.... why the wait. I picture my paperwork sitting on a desk for 9 months with the decision process taking 3 minutes. Bill

Quick update....I parked my truck march 30th 2009 because I had to start using insulin. I still have my exemption and may actually go back on the road with Landstar. Maintaining the exemption requires quarterly endo. visits which are tough if you don't have good health insurance (thank you UW Wisconsin benefits through my wife)

The load number have really increased in the past 3 or 4 months and appear to pay enough even with the $4.00+ fuel. As usual, its the empty miles that kill. But, with the increased load availability it just may work out
